Almost Paralyzed With Fear!!! Posted: 03-01-06 05:46am
Hey everybody, i'm new here, and i'm
pretty scared, although I may not have
reason to be. My headaches started out
as a tooth abscess in mid dec. On dec.
22, my husband decided to go on yet
another of his alcoholic benders and
ruined christmas for everybody. I won't
go into detail about all he put me
through, but believe me, it was bad.
Now...I had been pretty much disabled for
a year and a half due to dangerously low
blood pressure. While he was drunk, he
kept me on the run, which I was not used
to doing. I had no energy due to that
low bp. While he was drunk, I started
having to do things that he had been
doing, so for 3 weeks, I emptied trash,
ran errands for him, and took down our
massive christmas tree. That thing was
huge. Also, for the past 5 months, i've
had to deal with 3 deaths, all traumatic,
1 freak car wreck, and 2 horrible murders,
all people I was very, very close to.
Anyway, the day after he sobered up, it's
like I just lost it, snapped maybe. I
started having this horrible tension in my
neck and down into my shoulders and upper
back. Had a little dizziness, but not
much and even that seemed to come from my
back, can't really explain that, it was
just a feeling. Went to my Dr., told him
about the headaches, which really wasn't a
headache, I never even took an aspirin for
them, just kind of a tight feeling at the
back of my head. He felt my neck,
shoulders and back and said that it was
all "hard as rocks", with a knotted muscle
the size of a golf ball on my upper left
shoulder. I am also an anxiety "victim",
so we all naturally assume the worst when
we get headaches. Stress continued,
developed sinus infection. Finally got
scared enough to take myself to the er
where the Dr. Ordered ct scan of the
head, which she really didn't want to do,
didn't think it was necessary.
Neurological assessment was all normal.
This is what the ct scan said, "findings:
the ventricles and parenchymal
architecture have an appropriate ct
appearance for a patient of this age.
There is no mass effect or midline shift.
There is no acute hemorraghe or evidence
of localized edema. No abnormal
extra-axial fluid collections are present.
Impression: no significant radiographic
abnormality seen. Complete opacification
of the right maxillary sinus". The er
Dr. Said that the sinus was completely
full of infection. I also had an
earache. She found knotted and extremely
tense muscles. Put me on skelaxin, and 2
days after scan I noticed slight nausea.
I take a lot of hydrocodone for severe
lower back pain. I have talked to so
many people about this, I even talked to a
radiology tech in one of the best
hospitals in this country who works with
the radiologist who read the scan. She
said that the machine they used was a
brand new 16 slice scanner, and that the
radiologist, in her opinion, was the best
in the city I live in.
But...........Nobody can convince me that
I do not have a brain tumor. Started
seeing chiropractor who is doing deep
ultra sound on my entire back and neck,
headaches went away for about 10 days.
Then I got the news on valentine's day
about somebody very precious to me being
murdered, (massacred is the word for it
actually). I went into shock when I
heard it. Stupid headaches came back,
along with neck tension. I woke up this
morning with severe neck pain, went back
to bed, woke up again and it was gone
except for a dull ache. I try so hard to
believe in the ct scan, it's been 2 months
since all this started and I haven't
developed any new symptoms. But i'm
still scared, so any reassurance would
really help me at this point.
Sorry for such a long post. Btw, sinus
infection is finally breaking up and my
nose is running like a faucet. Those
don't scare me, but I don't like this
weird feeling in the back of my head, neck
and shoulders. Help!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance,
melanie

Hey,
i just want to thank everybody for your
help. Seems like the only answers
anybody gets on this board are the ones
who have migraines.
