Is a Viral Infection a Sign of HIV Infection?...I Had Unprot Posted: 03-03-06 08:44am
3 days after giving unprotected oral sex I
got a soar throat and a white tongue that
won’t brush off. The sore throat lasted
about 3 days but the white stuff on the
tongue never went. I currently have a
problem with getting water infections,
this has nothing to do with any possible
HIV symptoms as it has been going on for
years but it makes it hard to say whether
the burning sensation when i pass water is
due to a water infection or not. Now a
month on I have just come down with flue
like symptoms which so far I have had for
a week. The symptoms include a fever,
aches and pains, soar throat blocked
stinging nose and a painful cough and
light headedness. During this week I
haven’t had the burning sensation when I
pass water. The symptoms seem to be worst
in the morning and at night, during the
day I can feel completely healthy but on
the night and the symptoms can be so bad I
carnet even get out of bed. I understand
that what ever information you give
isn’t going to tell me if I have HIV but
I just need to hear some opinions on this
as i have to wait another 2 months until I
can get tested.

Unprotected oral sex is considered a risky
behavior for acquiring and/or transmitting
HIV-infection but the symptoms you’ve
described are so unspecific that it is
hard to say what has caused them. Your
symptoms are probably caused by a viral
infection of the upper respiratory tract.
You can visit your GP to diagnose the
symptoms immediately and to take an HIV
test after 2 months.
