my best friend has a 14 year old son who
is about to start
high school next year, he has epilepsy,
and she has never told
him. Unfortantly his best friend just
killed himself, and I am
afraid that this extra stress will cause
him to have an attack.
I have told her many times that she needs
to tell him, he is also
very over weight and I believe that this
needs to be kept an
eye on for his sake. I don't know enough
about epilepsy
(actully very little) and I dont think
that she does either. Where can
i go to get her the information that may
change her mind. I realize
that I might seem incredibly nosey, but I
worry for his health.
Any advice will be great.... Thanks

Tell my child that part of her brain is
dead??? I don't think so because it
simply isn't. It just works differently
that a "normal" persons. Dead??? Ask
you neurologist please or read a book
about it. It's not dead it just
misfires.

Your wrong
i hate the neurologist.
They do nothing for you.
I would be shocked, if your doctor knows
you from the last visit.
I am 36 I had brain surgery.
I am free, free at last.

Finding Out More About Epilepsy Posted: 01-18-04 14:53pm
Hi dixxie
a good way of finding out more about
epilepsy is to visit www.Epilespy.Org.Uk
i hope your friend does tell her son that
he has epilespy. I had epilespy for 3
years before it was diagnosed and it was a
very confusing and scary time. When I
was diagnosed, I was so releived to find
out what was wrong with me. I have no
doubts that your friend's son will be
feeling very confused and the web-site
i've given you has information for parents
whose children have epilepsy.
Hope this helps.

When Do You Tell Posted: 01-18-04 15:52pm
He needs to be told now. He is old
enough to handle it and he needs to start
being pro-active with his illness.

It's Something You Can't Hide From..... Posted: 01-28-04 15:34pm
If you have a seizure disorder you can not
ignore it. You need to educate yourself
and your family and friends about it.
(schools too if its a child) there are
many places to get info from here are just
a few:
epilepsyfoundation.Org
or call them at 800-332-1000 they will
help find the info your looking for, I
have called them myself many times asking
questions about different things. Mostly
about my meds and the side effects.
