? About Smokin During Pregnancy Posted: 12-31-03 02:20am
Ok I am preg when I was at the dr
yesterday he asked if I smoked and I said
yes.... N he said that is very bad u need
to quit its bad altogether but even worse
while pregnant and he said ti will cause
low birth weight(i know that is true in
some cases) but he also said it can cause
a misscarriage n I needed to stop? Is
this true? Bc alot of ppl have told me
there doctor said to just slack up bc its
worse on the baby if u just quit at once
due to putting stress on the baby and
withdrawl from the mother n baby ... So I
was curious bc I smoke I know I shouldnt n
should quit but its easier said than done
but I have cut back but I mean I have
smoked since I was 10 and im not 17 so its
really hard for me to just quit I have
tried o so many times but doesnt work wish
I knew an easy way to but dont so I cant
help that to much.... But has any one
heard this or been told this? Cuz ive
heard it to gibe the baby asthma and low
birth weight n such but never cause a
misscarage
Yes, the doc is right. Smoking is one of
the leading causes of premature birth,
miscarriages, and low birth weight. I
know this because my cousins baby was
premature, very small and such and it was
eventually drawn to the smoking...........
Really, cut down. I know easier said
than done, but it does and can hurt the
baby.

Wow that is horrible to hear I wish it was
easy to put them down as it was to pick
them up!!! I guess that helps in a big
way to hear that it can cause m/c and such
altho I hope n pray to god this doesnt
happen to my lil one... But bc of the
fact I know soooo many who smoked thru out
the whole preg and had perfectly heathy
babies and one that had a 5 pound but
healthy baby I guess in my head it makes
me think its ok for me to do it bc ive
never heard it causes misscariages but I
guess by being told that its tru n can
happen it would help in a big way for me
to cut back even more n try quitting just
for the fact knowing this is tru n
possible.... Thanks for the reply

Hey my doc told me it could harm the baby
more than you think! I smoked before I
knew I was pregnant but as soon as I found
out I was I stopped. Some girls might get
lucky smoking while they're pregnant and
have healthy babies but if I were you I
wouldn't take any chances! And I know
stopping is not an easy thing to do! I've
been smoking for years and years now and
stopping cold turkey was horrible. But
you just have to take your mind off of it
and focus on the little one inside you!
Good luck and I hope the best for both you
and your baby!

My cousin smoked the whole way through her
2 pregnancies-now one of her sons has
chronic asthma & the other has bad
hearing problems due to glue ear which was
a direct result of her smoking.
Get helped in quitting cos its not worth
it
