Factor V Leiden...heard of This?? Posted: 03-03-06 16:14pm
I just found out from my biological father
that he as a blood disorder called factor
v leiden. It is passed down from your
parents. I have just submitted blood work
to find out if I have this gene.
Appparently, it can cause complications
during pregnancy. Anyone have this or
have heard of it??
Thanks!

It could be that he doesn't have the
factor in his blood to make it clot...So I
highly suggest finding out if you have it,
so when you go into labor, they'll know
what to do.
I have vonwillebrand factor 8, and its
also genetic and makes it harder for my
blood to clot. So when I go into labor,
they'll have to make special precautions,
and have extra blood on hand just in case.

Thanks for the info. If I do have it, it
sounds like they will put me on blood
thinning medication. Opposite of what you
have!

Hi,
My sister, aunt, cousin, and grandmother
all have factor V leiden. I have done a
lot of research on it. It can cause you to
develop blood clots (although most people
never have any symptoms). If your father
has it, you have a 50% chance of having it
also. Unless you have had trouble with
blood clots in the past, they may not put
you on blood thinners (it just depends on
the doctor). Good luck with everything!
