I am a 100% service connected disabled
military retiree and have been under the
watchfull eye (?) of the veteran's
administration since 1994. I am taking 8
different medications for problems such
as, epilepsy, deep vein thrombsis, high
cholesterol and a blood disorder that is
caused by a high protein content. I
don't place any blame on the doctor's at
the va for the many problems that i've had
with the medical treatment that i've had
at va hospital's, I blame the government
for under funding the program and
forgetting the veteran's that have made
this country what it is today. I am
taking two drugs that i'm told is for high
cholesterol. The highest my cholesterol
has ever been was 212, and it hasn't been
checked again in over two years. I am
still taking 600mg gemfibrozil twice daily
along with 40mg of simvastatin once daily.
Every doctor (or intern) I see wants to
raise my medication. The following is a
list of the medications that I take daily
and the doseage:
1. 600mg gemfibrozil twice daily
(cholesterol)
2. 40mg simvastatin at bedtime
(cholesterol)
3. 860mg dilantin divided into three
doses daily (epileptic seizures)
4. 1500mg levetiracetam twice daily
(epileptic seizures)
5. 5mg warfin daily (7.5mg on mondays)
(this blood due to protein)
6. 40mg furosemide mon-wed-fri (dvt)
7. Multivitamin (to replace the vitamin's
lost due to the other meds)
i find it very hard to concentrate or make
decision's of any kind. I have just been
told that I am eligble for medicare and
i'm going to help the va by going that
route. I believe that i'm being over
medicated.
