Daughter Is Schizophrenic And Paranoid
Posted: 03-04-06 14:45pm

We have a daughter who is 39. She has done all sorts of drugs, is an alcoholic and is hiv. For about a year she has imagined(hallucinated and heard voices) cia, fbi, president bush, etc.... She thinks she has been inplanted a couple of times and still has these devices in her body.I could go on and on and all, everybody in all hospitals, doctors are all the enemy.

Now she is saying she has lice all in her house on her and all of her clothes. I read up on this and lice can only live 24 hrs unless it is on the individual or on an animal. Yet she keeps treating herself and the house.

We live in one state and she lives in another. She will not accept the fact that none of what she hears, feels, etc. Is real.

We are at our ropes end.

Anyone have any ideas?

A good therapist who specializes with people labeled "schizophrenia" can help her. Contact mindfreedom, go to their website.

Hello...

I am so sorry to hear you are at wit's end with your daughter. I know how you feel I am pretty much there with my fiance...He is 27, and is diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic. He has been in counseling, psychiatric facilities, rehabs, on many many medications...And nothing seems to help. He functions normally when he takes his meds as prescribed, but he doesn't seem to ever want to continue to take them. So we always have weeks where he functions fine, and then weeks where he appears to be all out of sorts yet again. I know my finace has problems with drugs and alcohol and the paranoia only seems to be worse when he does those things. But as he has told me he gets so messed up on drugs and alcohol cause they make the voices stop. I really feel for you cause this is one of the worst mental illnesses to suffer from. I can't help but feel bad because people who suffer from this illness honestly think that what they see and hear are truly real. His maternal grandmother has this illness as well so we know it was somewhat caused through genetics and made worse through a very very unstable home life as a child and teenager. Does it ever get better, and by that I don't mean a cure but people who suffer from this do they ever reach an age in their lives where the episodes of paranoia lessen? Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with daily life, anyone on any new medications that maybe I could mention to my fiance that might help him, any new treatments that are offered? Please help, and if anyone would like to talk I am here to listen.

I have a sense of what you are going through. We are going through the same with our son who was just diagnosed last november, 8 months ago now. He got better on the meds but stopped taking them. It has been a roller coaster ride ever since. Unfortunately, that is the biggest problem with those with schizophrenia--they don't keep taking the medication. I think you can only do so much, living so far away. I feel for you. Our son is just now out of the hospital again, staying with us temporarily and so is taking the meds and keeping his appointments; however he is a grown man who will move into his own apt. Soon, and then I fear the whole thing will start all over again. I am trying to prepare myself emotionally. This is hard, no two ways about it.
