They say between 16 and 24 weeks they can tell.....I am due 8/19 and I am going tomorrow go see what my skoot is. Yay!!!!! I am not just finding out the sex of the baby...I am finding out if his/her heart is messed up like my last babie's heart was.

I'd say if your doc can't tell then wait a week or so and then go the the free ones to let them tell you for sure. But you shouldn't have a problem. I'd do the free one jsut to see my baby as much as I can.

Definitely agree after the first u/s you'll be hooked. I wish I could have them more often so I can get more glimpses of the blue m&m.

I'm 16 weeks 2 days and i'm dying to find out the sex.
I go to the doctor's today but I want to make sure that it's 100% accurate, so I think i'm just going to wait until my type 2 ultrasound in april.. Although it's killer wanting to know now!!

How do I find out whether or not local colleges around me give free or reduced priced ultrasounds?

My daughter showed us no doubt. I was 16 wks at that appointment and they changed my due date to 08/07. Yay. There was no doubt what my skoot was. She spread her little legs wide. She wanted us to know. Lol

you can contact your local collges and they can let you know when the techs are going to be practicing. All it is, is practice for the students that are trying to become doctors and techs. You can also sign up to get papsmears from them and stuff like that. I would never do that,. But the ultrasound wouldn't hurt.

When I found out I was going to have a boy I was 19 weeks because I had waited so long to go to the doctor(only because I wanted someone good) but everything was ok.

The average is actually to find out by ultra sound as early as 18 weeks, but that's not considered to be really reliable. My ob office won't even try to determine gender before 20 weeks. If you have an amniocentesis (like if you're testing for .Down's .Syndrome or other markers) that can tell you 100% for sure. Even after 20 weeks nothing is 100% reliable except for amniocentesis or finding out after delivery.
