Phytic Acid In Soy Products Posted: 03-09-06 08:45am
I've heard mixed opinions on this and was
wondering if anyone else has come across
anything. Supposedly, the phytic acid
content in soy products, including soy
milk I believe, "binds" nutrients and
reduces your ability to digest them. Has
anyone come across anything stating the
reasons for this or on the contrary?
I've found some articles from both sides,
but none of them really seem to prove
their point at all. Just curious about
this, since I do drink soy milk and it's
recommended for my diet. If it is really
problematic, i'll have to change it to
perhaps natural calcium tablets or
something. Anyone know anything?

All I can say is...Please god dont let
this b true! I dont want to cut yet
another thing out of my diet!!!!!!!!! I
have soya milk and 1 or 2 soya yoghurts
everyday as they are full of protein and
seem to keep me going really well....
I'll ask my nutritionist if she knows
anything when I see her next week.
Fingers majorly crossed!

Don't worry too much, it may just be me.
I've noticed that upon adding a bit more
soy milk i've become extremely bloated
right after drinking it, and if I don't
eat something at least an hour after I get
these terrible, almost uncontrollable
hunger pains that come from nowhere. I
experimented this morning suspecting the
soy milk as the culprit, and sure enough
it seems to be. Same reaction, and I
wasn't even thinking about it when it
happened, I drank it down and did
something else and then it came on for no
reason, same sensations. Let me know
what you find out, I think i'm going to
temporarily take some calcium tablets to
see if there's a difference, it may simply
be another adjustment. Later in
treatment this sometimes becomes hard to
tell.

My daughter has a goiter and her doc told
us to get her off the soy milk. She's
allergic to cow's milk (casein) and was on
soy formula, then soy milk for 11 years.
I don't know about the phytic acid. Not
sure if there's a connection. I sometimes
wonder if hypoglycemia is hormone related,
and if so, then the soy could potentially
cause problems. Http://thyroid.Abo

please let me know if this would be ok for
a hypo diet?

but i'm going to look into it today to see
if I can find it.

You may be okay with that, though some
aren't. Make sure the silk is the
unsweetened kind, not the "original."
people fall for this and think it means
plain, it does not. They add pure cane
sugar or something to it to make it taste
better. Be certain it's unsweetened.
If it seems okay to you, keep it up. I
stopped because it seemed to be giving me
terrible reactions.

It has organic evaporated cane juice in
it.
I tried a bit of it with shredded wheat
and gave me a headache.
