Hey ladies I need some advice..... My
husband and I want to have a baby and we
just started trying... I just came off my
birth control in feb.. We're hoping to
conceive in august b/c he graduates from
college next spring, and the baby would
come around that time.... I'm wondering
tho.... While we're trying.... I have
insulin resistance and i'm on
metformin.... I weigh about 190pounds ( I
know.... I need to lose weight ) and my
doctor suggested the atkins diet since it
monitors carb intake and that would help
my insulin resistance... And she wants me
to drop 30 pounds by june to be down to
160.... What effect would the atkins diet
have on ttc? Would losing that much
weight so quickly hinder it any? :?:

Does your doctor know that you are trying
to get pregnant? I am also trying to
lose weight and ttc but I am using weight
watchers which, I feel, is healthier than
atkins. If you are losing just to lose I
guess atkins would be fine but if you get
pregnant your body could be missing some
essential nutrients that it needs. I
would talk to your ob doctor about it
before trying that.

I am ttc and trying to lose some weight
too. I am not really on any diet but
trying to eat alot healthier which will
benefit the baby and helps with the weight
loss while I am trying. I wouldnt have
thought any strict diet like the atkins
would be benefical to someone ttc.

Yes she does, she knows I am ttc.... I
can't do weight watchers b/c of my insulin
resistance. Weight watchers does not
limit intake of starches and I have to do
a diet that does this.... She gave me a
prescription vitamin to balance the
diet......... I tried weight watchers
before and I gained weight on it... My
doc said that its b/c my body cannot lose
weight by reduction of fats.... Since I
have too much insulin, I need to reduce
carbs... She said atkins is a very
healthy diet if you do it correctly.....
She said that most people don't follow the
diet correctly, and thats why it is
unhealthy...... So as long as I follow it
correctly she said that the will balance
my insulin, and actually aid in ttc... I
guess i'll find out... I've never tried
it before....... I was only posting this
to see if anyone else had done the diet
before ttc and I was curious on their
results

I wish you luck with it. I think as long
as you are under your doctors care, you
should be fine.
