What Impact will a Hysterectomy have on my Hormones and Sex Posted: 03-13-06 12:15pm
I have uterine prolapse and up until 4
months ago had bladder prolapse
(cystocele) as well. My gynae agreed to
just mend the bladder even though he
wanted to do a hysterectomy as well. Four
months since my operation and I still have
bladder frequency (not quite as bad as
before) and pressure especially when I am
constipated as well. My GP is saying I
could have Interstitial Cystitis but I am
thinking that maybe my symptoms are more
because of my prolapsed uterus. Do you
think the way ahead is a hysterectomy?
If I have my uterus and cervix removed
(not ovaries) what inpact will this have
on my hormones and my sex life.

A hysterectomy is the most efficient and
recommended treatment for uterine
prolapsus; you cannot, however, become
pregnant after a hysterectomy. If your
uterus is removed, you shouldn't
experience hormonal problems because the
ovaries are not removed. Your sex life
will be disturbed soon after the operation
due to surgical trauma but will recover in
time.
