Bad Burping And Regurgitation After Eating Posted: 03-14-06 10:51am
Hi, appoligise if i've posted on the wrong
thread.
My girlfriend has gassy problems after
eating. :?
Everytime she has a snack or meal she
burps and sometimes the food comes back
up. This happens after 5 minutes and
continues for a couple of hours.
This has been an ongoing problem for
several years, and been getting worse.
She has been to the doctor once, 6months
ago and was told to take gaviscon tablets
before eating. This doesnt really help at
all.
I'm really worried because she doesnt eat
properly and gets bad cramps.
Any advice will be greatfully recieved
thanks

Why don't you phone the specialist instead
of waiting for him?

Have she ever been checked for gallstones?
I am no specialist but i've been dealing
with gallsotone problems for 3 years now.
Her symptoms sounds very much like mine
in the begining even now after having my
gallbladder removed for two years, I still
have the same problem. Now stones are
developing in the common bile duct which
blocks it off and I get the burping
constantly and usually end up vomiting it
back up. If she hasn't already she
should ask her doctor to perform an
ultrasound to see if she has gallstones?
Hopefully, this could be of some help to
you? Wish you luck!

I feel her pain Posted: 04-01-08 15:00pm
I had my gallbladder removed 10 years ago.
Over the past few years I've had this
same issue with food coming back up... I
don't have the best diet but I can't
believe that the type of food that I am
eating is making this happen...it happens
with most all food that I eat... I also
have indigestion sometimes to the point of
pain... it seems to me that something must
be wrong... good luck! If you find
anything out please post as I am still
searching for my own answers.

Has she been back to the doctor since the
gaviscon tablets aren't working? She needs
to be her own health advocate. If it isn't
working, go back to the doctor again and
again and again. Some symptoms represent
more that one issue so for a doctor to
sort it out in one visit isn't always a
reasonable request.
Sounds like he thought is might be an
ulcer so he advised gaviscon. If her issue
is in her gallbladder, the advise would be
something different.
Does this happen all the time or only
after certain foods? Is it worse when she
drinks alcohol? Is it worse at night?
Not everyone replies to every post they
read because they don't have any answers.

Maybe it is GERD? If she's had it for a
long time, her esophagus could be very
well be deteriorated a lot... in which
case, it's not going to be hard for the
food to come right back up. I've gotten
food coming back up sometimes because of
GERD.
To avoid this happening, if this is her
problem, she needs something like Nexium
or the "purple pill" to keep the reflux at
bad and also REPAIR the damage to the
esophagus, which other medications don't
do. She should stay away from acidic
foods and only eat very small and frequent
meals rather than the traditional three
meals a day.
I hope that helps out a little.

I agree.
First thing I thought of was Acid Refux
(Gerd).

Bad burping Posted: 05-10-08 10:34am
I had the problem of burping after eating
for years. Just recently I was diagnosed
with LPR (laryngopharygeal Reflux) The
syptom that made me finally go to the
doctor was Laryngitis off and on for
several months without a sore throat. I
believe it just started out as GERD but
worsened. This condition is where the
lower and upper esopageal sphinctors don't
close all the way allowing acid to come
out of your stomach. Sometimes you feel
like you have a constant lump in your
throat and food comes back up. Although
this is usually a condition of older
people, I am only 38 and am one of the
younger ones. It is worth possibly going
to see an ENT specialist for some testing.
I would also check out the gallbladder
condition. Good luck in helping your
friend.
