Taking Maternity Leave From Work.
Posted: 03-15-06 14:59pm

I was approched by my boss and her boss over her about my maternity leave. My due date changed from 8/19/06 to 08/07/2006 however my doctor doesn't want me to go into labor because of the incision I had with my emergancy c-section. All that said my doctor was to deliver me in my 38 week of gestation. About the 2nd to last week in july.

Well, this chick here at work is delivering sometime in may and will be out her 12 weeks (as will i) but she will not be coming back before I go out to deliver. So they actually had the nerve to ask me to ask my doctor if I could deliver in august. Keep in mind for my health and the baby's health I can't go into labor. Should I start contracting I could rupture.

I advised them of the risks of I go into labor and they both laughed and said that it would be ok. That I can't deliver before my due date (like I have a choice.) because the other chick would be covering me when I am gone and won't be back until like the middle of august.

I have called my doctor and requested a medical note to state that why I have to deliver before I go into labor. (which I may go into labor earlier never know) but before I give this to my boss and her boss, should I go to my .H.R. Department? Should I advise them of the conversation that I had with them??? I don't really know which direction to go with this.

It just angers me off.

Well that is some nerve they have! Geez! And i'd def. Go to ur h.R department. They can't ask you to just keep your legs closed so ur baby don't come out. Some people...........

You only get 12 weeks off?!?! Here we get a year...

A year????????? Good lord, what I would do to just be able to quit my job to raise my skoot. But at lease a year would be wonderful. Do you get paid for that whole year?

Wow, that's insensitive and unethical. I'd go to the higher-ups and complain, definitely. I mean, they're telling you to put yourself in danger so they can have staff.

What arseholes! I would go to hr and tell them. They cannot force you to stay. Here we can take maternity leave anywhere from 2 months before our due date and they can't stop you!

Yes, we get 1 yr off with 55-80% of our salary plus family allowance once or twice a month depending on the province! In quebec we get 2 family allowance checks a month because we have 2 tax systems.

Shoot better healthcare and overall lower crime rate, we should all move to canada...

Actually though in 5 years I plan to move to coastal maine. Which is a heck of a lot closer to canada than I am now (although we've driven there a couple of times and it aint that bad). Then i'll sneak into canada and pretend to be a citizen just for the healthcare!!

Lol you guys are too funny....My husband said that we will just zip-tie my legs together and keep her in there. Lol

my uncle will look into it if it gets that far. But I did go to my hr department and they told me that they would take care of it. They told me that it was an absurd request and shouldn't have approched me about it. And it will be taken care of. My friend that sits next to me had already gone to them and advised them of what had happed. She is the hippa enforcer here and she said that my right of privacy was breached because of the way that they did it at my cubical. I hadn't even spoken with her about it. So she was taking care of me before I could take care of myself. I did get the paper work from my dr and showed them....Didnt' really need to but I did just to make sure they did know why I was going to have my baby early.

I think that they are on crack or something to have the balls to do that. But anyhow......It's taken care of for now...Until I start getting the cold sholder from them. Aack don't really need that.

People are too much! It's hard to believe that people are that insane and as a woman she should have better sense... First of all unless all the world starts scheduling c-sections then there's no way to determine exactly to the day when baby is gonna decide to come. A due date is a general time line not precise science. I guess babies just screw her whole little world up. And in this case since you've got valid medical reason to have your baby's arrival scheduled and it's throwing off their little plan what are they gonna do, go ask the other chick to schedule her baby two weeks earlier? What jack butts.
