Upper Back Pain
Posted: 03-17-06 13:42pm

I have been having a lot of upper back pain lately that sometimes wraps around to under my ribcage with a sharp feeling. It feels like it goes down the spine and surrounding area between the shoulder blades. I have also been having right leg pain, like a pinching, in my calf and sometimes thigh, maybe related. Occasional low back pain but much less often. I'm 20, female, and in pretty good condition but not extremely active nowadays. What are some causes of upper back pain?? Thanks!

Hi
most common reason for neck and shoulder blade pain is mechanical, that is related to your posture and activities. Pay attention to how you sit, work and sleep routinely. If simple neck and back stretches dont relieve the pain, you may need an expert evaluation.
This article I wrote for a newspaper suppliment may be of help to you.

Upper Back Pain, Understand And Solve
Posted: 03-28-06 09:56am

It sounds like a gait issue. You are likely experiencing tortipelvis. What happens is the pelvis distorts due to muscle spasm (pain in the leg, legs feel heavy, back is kinked up). This will cause the upper back to strain since it takes away the motion the is contributed by your pelvis (alot of motion and power in our bodies is generated by the pelvis mechanically). You probably are built assymmetrically and this causes one side to alway be tighter. See a good chiropractor, and you will likely benefit from foot orthotics and myofascial work as well. There may be more to this however, you will need to be evaluated
