What is Diabetes? And why do Diabetics Wear Insulin Pumps? Posted: 03-17-06 14:21pm
I have met someone who wears an insulin
pump. What does that mean to a
relationship. What should I know about to
be sure I'm completely informed of any
issues that may arise. The realationship
has not gone any further than the first
meeting and if it does I will ask him, but
for now I am just curious.

A person experiencing diabetes wears an
insulin pump because pumps assure proper
dosage of insulin into the body each
moment. Diabetes is a chronic, life-long
endochrine disease wherein the metabolism
of glucose and fats is disturbed. A
daibetic can’t control the blood glucose
level... which can go very high. Insulin
is a hormone that controls the blood
glucose level. In diabetes either there
isn’t enough insulin in the body or the
target organs don’t react properly with
normal amounts of insulin. Synthetic
insulin is the most recent cure for
diabetes. Insulin can be taken with
injections or pumps. Insulin must be
taken during a diabetic's entire life in
proper doses.
