Ultrasound Confirmation of Embryo Verifies Pregnancy....but Posted: 03-19-06 10:28am
Hello...can u please help to answer a
worry we are having...we thought i was
about 6weeks pregnant.I started bleeding
on friday so I went to A&E and they booked
me in for a scan yesterday(saturday),I
went and had that but the scan couldn't
pick up my baby or a sack, she did say it
could be because I'm less weeks than we
thought, she did an internal exam and still
couldnt see anything, but again she said
this could be why.when I did bleed there
wasn't any clots and it happend after sex
while I was in the shower so there was
more water than blood.
They took a bloodtest yesterday aswell and
I will have to go back for another one
tomorrow (monday)to see if the HCG hormone
has doubled, they also said they couldnt
see anything to sugest it might be
eptopic, but I'm petrified I just do not no
what on earth to do...i dont want to loose
my baby,It would be the last thing i could
put up with and i already love him/her so
very much...please help, thank you for your
time.JadeX
ps.I'm still secreating a browny
discharge.

If you are pregnant (confirmed first with
a positive pregnancy test), an ultrasound
can confirm the embryo sack’s presence
in the uterus during the 5th or 6th week
of pregnancy. A positive pregnancy test
without an ultrasound confirmation of the
embryo in the uterus is a very suspect
case for ectopic pregnancy. hCG levels
normally double every 2 days.... This does
not occur, however, in the case of ectopic
pregnancy. Besides spotting, pain is
typical in ectopic pregnancies (none in
your case). Sometimes, a laparoscopy is
needed to prove or exclude the possibility
of ectopic pregnancy.
Another possibility is that you had early
miscarriage. Spotting is always present
with or without pain.
The last possibility is that you
weren’t pregnant at all but you had
delayed menstruation. In this case
pregnancy test must be negative.
