I think I am.... Or maybe it's hormones. *shrug*

anyway, I went to the doc today in hopes of finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl... What I found out instead is that what the doctor who did the ultrasound on my first visit told me (that I was 12 weeks, 3 days along at the time of my first visit) was not true. I was, instead, 10 weeks, 3 days. Meaning that I am, right now, not far enough along for them to tell.

Argh!

I understand that it was an honest mistake, but still. I was totally disappointed.

On the positive side, they did set up an appointment for my ultrasound. It's in 2 weeks. Also, my blood pressure had gone down. Yay!

It's not always possible to date a foetus with 100% accuracy, so whilst you are entitled to be a little miffed, being angry seems to be an over-reaction. And as long as the baby is healthy, well that's all that matters in the end.

Yeah, but here's the thing... She told me 12w3d. Several times. Bf was there and heard the same thing. We told both our families that. However, on all the paperwork, she wrote 10w3d (which was correct). It's not like she just miscalculated the first time. She told me one thing and wrote down another.

Yes, I know it's not a horrible thing. And of course i'm happy the baby is healthy, geez. But the point is that it happened in the first place. I mean, i've been wrong this whole time and not because it just wasn't pinpointed (and, yeah, I also know you can't get it 100%), but because I was misinformed.

Did the doctor change your due date based on that information? Or were you still going off the due date calculated by your last mentrual cycle? Do you get an ultra sound often (like at this dr's visit, for instance)?

I understand you are angry, but always listen to your doctor .N.O.T an ultrasound technician. By law, they aren't supposed to tell you anything.

Who knew? I thought they would at least know something since they look at so many freaking babies all day...

Hmm...
I'd be pissed too!!! It's like come on!! That's not just a couple days difference...That's a whole 2 weeks!! So you've been telling everybody that you're 12 weeks and now you gotta turn around and correct that!! Grrr...Your anger is totally justifiable!

...Keep the original date and pray for an early birth? :p

it's not like they told you it had no legs as a joke or something. I suppose it's because i've never been pregnant, but two weeks doesn't seem all that earth-shattering to me. When people ask how far along you are, tell them. If they can add and make further inquiries, tell them the hospital made a mistake.

This is my 1st pregnancy...At my first ultrasound, my .Dr told me "look mah, no brains!" I laughed but then asked him if he was serious!! Lol...He of course said no. My .Dr is young and likes to joke around a lot.

I don't know if i'd pray for an early birth, but I certainly would keep the original due date..And if people start to question it...Tell them you're overdue! Lol

Well, the original date is wrong, which is the problem. Lol. If the right date had just come out of her mouth in the first place, this wouldn't have happened. Like I said, she got it right... She just didn't tell me right. It's odd. Especially since she said it, like, three times.

I'm definitely 16 weeks (and some-odd days). Doctor says so. Paperwork says so. Calculations all point to it. It's just not what I was told.

Now all I can think is, if she does the ultrasound and tells me i'm having a boy, how much am I going to believe her? Lol it's stupid, I know, but these things just go through your head sometimes. :p

Yea...I hear what you're saying! My first ultrasound I was told that I was having a boy. I didn't believe it so I scheduled another one (which I had to come out of pocket for) and he told me it was a girl. So I was left in a tango of which is it .Doc?! And he realized what he had done and looked again and confirmed it was a girl.
He did say that she could blow on her thumb and a penis might pop out!! Lol...He's a huge joker!! Delivery is going to be fun!! If not, i'm sure he'll crack jokes to lighten the mood!

When it comes to the sex, they don't have crystal balls and they're .Drs, not .God...Or at least that's what my .Dr says!! Lol

good luck!

Ultra sounds are not really that accurate. Maybe 75% of the time, and that's with an excellent u/s tech or ob.

2 weeks give or take is normal. If you know when you conceived, the u/s could even be 2 weeks difference from what you know already to be the likely conception date.

The baby has growth spurts and then slows down size growth to focus on other things, like growing a spinal column or fingers, so it's possible that the baby was in between growth spurts.

I really wouldn't worry about it or be angry about it. Your edd is only an estimate to begin with.

My .Dr told me to tell people that i'm due the 1st week of may instead of a specific date.

that was good advice. Babies come when they come. A due date is an estimation of when the baby will come, but very rarely do they come on their due date.

Especially being that it's my first. It's really like a "who knows" type situation.

trust me, it's earth-shattering. It's like every pregnant woman is in a race to the due date. Two weeks is a major difference, especially when it's two more looooooong weeks of being tired, nauseous, dizzy, heavy slow, irritable and just generally pregnant.

My birthday is .May 1st. My original due date (when my moms was preggy with me) was .May 6th...So hopefully I get a good birthday present!!

I've already told my .Dr that I don't want to be induced. Only because I don't want the hospital to break my water and things like that....I don't like hospitals at all...They freak me out...I figure the less time I spend there...The better!! Lol

Lalee,

i just wanted to say that my friend was told at 12 weeks that she was having a boy. My sister was told at 16 weeks that she was having a girl. And they couldn't take a peek and see if they could tell?

My first sonogram was off my three weeks. However, she is measuring 3 weeks bigger and that is better than two weeks smaller. But I could tell you that I need the extra 3 weeks. On top of that I am having her like two weeks early. Just know that 2 weeks is just an estamate of the due date. Just don't stress yourself over it.

Stress will cause harm.

.It's impossible to know gender as early as 12 weeks. The genitals aren't visible until 14/15 weeks. Most ob's and techs worth their salt won't even attempt to check gender by u/s until a minimum of 18 weeks. The baby simply isn't big enough, and many male babies testes don't descend until late in the pregnancy or even after birth. U/s for determining gender is not considered accurate until 20 weeks and even then it can be questionable. The only 100% accurate methods are viewing at birth or amniocentesis.

ok....Just stating what I was told.....You can look at her 12 week and see his little....And my sister @ 16 weeks was told she was having a girl....Now with her son it was more like 24 weeks before she knew.
