ortho-tricyclen lo for about 4 months + now off
Posted: 03-21-06 13:24pm

I was taking ortho-tricyclen lo for about 4 months, but the second to last month I was on it, I was on an antibiotic and ended up with a period for over a week. I stopped because I was going to take another antibiotic and didn't want to waste the pill. So now i'm off. And waiting for my period. Which is late. It's normal to have a late or missed period when you first go off bc, right? I don't think i'm pregnant due to no tenderness, nausea, anything like that.

I have had sex multiple times this month, sometimes with a condom halfway through, and other times he just pulled out.

But there's no chance for me to be pregnant, right?

Having sex - even with the pull out method - at all means there is a slight possibility you may be pregnant. However, when you stop taking the pill it takes your body some time to adjust to it's own hormone balance.

It is curious that you had your period in the middle of a cycle after taking antibiotics. I don't think the two are related. It was probably breakthrough bleeding that can happen any time on hormonal birth control. I'm also not sure where the 'waste' would be. If otc lo only takes about a week to be effective (is that right?) then you only 'wasted' a week or two worth of protection vs having to wait to start the pill and having been unprotected the entire month. If hormonal birth control isn't right for you, you can find something that will work better. An iud, a cap, diaphragm, etc.

Good luck.
