Should I be concerned if my grandson, who is 17 days old, has not had a bowel movement in 24 hours? He is currently being bottle-fed with similac advance with iron and also takes the breast occasionally. I had heard that formulas with iron tend to constipate infants. Replies appreciated. Constance

Yes it can. I added a tsp. Of dark karo to a couple of bottles aday and helped at 17 days old he should be having fairly frequent bowel movements

My daughter was bottle fed from the start had no added iron but did have major constipation she almost had to have surgery at 8 weeks, but prune juice worked eventually. Now 15 she still has constipation but has found that massaging the large intestine by rubbing firmly from the lower right groin up to just below ribs then straight across then down to lower left groin has been a big help. Food often gets caught up in the large intestine & this can cause blockages.
