I'm a custodian and i'm on my feet 9-10 hrs. A day. Should the doctor keep me out of work until the pain goes away. Please help !!!!!!!!!!!

Hello there,

i'm not a doctor and I can't help u. I m writing this to offer u my support and best wishes for ur soon recovery.
I'll have the same surgery very soon. My meniscus is torn and there is also a cyst in my knee (backer's cyst).
How long did ur operation last? How did u feel afterwards? How long does the recovery usually last?

Hope u heal quickly. Don't lost heart!

I have had 6 surgeries. 3 on one knee and 3 on other. I am now eligible for bilateral knee replacements and am only 34 years old. I am not a doctor but I would advise you to consider keeping the weight off of the knee but use the physical therapy to keep it mobile. The pain will eventually subside. I have had 3 meniscus tears and all took about 6 weeks. Good luck.

Recovery often depends on the size of the tear, weather you had a repair or removal, and the amount of damage to the joint surfaces!

Hi,

i had two surgeries on my left knee. The first to cut and repair the tear, but did something stupid, and had to have the rest of the cartilage taken out a few weeks afterward. I was off work for around 6 weeks. I had quite a bit of pain for a little more than 6 months. Doc gave me a few cortisone shots and after a year I didnt have that much problem with my knee. But that was in 1989, and not sure how they do things now.

You might want to try rice, first, if that dont help go see your doctor. He may be able to check and see if there is imflamation, and give you anti-imflamatories or a cortisone shot.

Good luck
