Is Tmj Related to the Throat Discomfort? Posted: 03-24-06 16:45pm
I may get in trouble for this, but I just
read the doctor's reply to someone's
question about tmj related to throat
discomfort and must admit to being
shocked. The neck is very affected by
tmj, including the throat. If you study
the muscles of the face and neck, they are
all very closely related and must work
together and balanced to function properly
without pain.
Tmjd can be caused by many things, but the
imbalance of the jaw muscles and bad bites
contribute greatly to muscle spasms in the
head, neck, shoulders and back. Spasms
can cause pain and discomfort.
Posture is a big problem with tmj and
throat problems. With computers being so
popular now, we stick our necks and chins
out to see the computer screen while
slouching usually. This is terrible for
tmj and the throat. We must keep our
back's reasonably straight with our
shoulders back and down, and head back and
chin down (not too far down) while on the
computer or anything really.
I'm sorry to sound like a know-it-all, but
I hate to see information given that
doesn't tell enough of the story to come
to the right conclusion. Tmj is related
to throat discomfort. Not all throat
problems are related to tmj. And you
should see your doctor if you have thoat
discomfort.
