Painful Period and Burning Sensation in the Ovary...Severe E Posted: 03-27-06 00:00am
I RECENTLY INJURED MY BACK AT WORK, MY DR.
PRESCRIBED A FEW MEDICATIONS FOR PAIN
INCLUDING STEROIDS. MY MRI INDICATED THAT
I HAD TWO BULGING DISCS BETWEEN L4 AND L5.
MY CONCERN IS 2 WEEKS AFTER I HAD MY
INJURY I GOT MY PERIOD AND THE FIRST DAY I
GOT HORRIFIC CRAMPS WHICH FELT LIKE MY
OVARY WAS BURNING IN ADDITION TO SEVERE
CRAMPS IN MY RECTUM. SO HORRIBLE THAT IT
WAS UNBAREABLE AND I COULDN'T SLEEP. I
NORMALLY HAVE CRAMPS BUT NOTHING TO CRY
ABOUT. THE CRAMPS PERSISTED FOR 2 DAYS. I
GOT OVER THAT PERIOD AND I'M AT MY SECOND
PERIOD SINCE MY INJURY AND IT HURTS SO
BAD, IT FEELS LIKE MY OVARY IS ON FIRE AND
LIKE I'M BEING STABBED IN MY OVARY IN
ADDITION TO TERRIBLE PAINS IN MY RECTUM. I
TOOK 2 VICODIN'S THAT WERE PRESCRIBED FOR
MY BACK JUST TO NUMB THE PAIN TO BE ABLE
TO WALK TO THE BATHROOM. I KIND OF
REMEMBER THE PAIN WHEN I WAS 13 AND IT WAS
VERY SIMILAR. CAN YOU HELP ME DETERMINE IF
THE PROBLEM IS SEVERE. I'M A LOW INCOME
SINGLE MOTHER OF FOUR AND I DON'T HAVE
HEALTH INSURANCE FOR MYSELF, ONLY FOR MY
CHILDREN AND I DON'T REALLY HAVE THE EXTRA
MONEY TO GO TO THE DOCTOR IF IT ISN'T
SEVERE. PLEASE HELP.

It seems that you are suffering from
painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea).
Ovarian cysts usually develope without
symptoms; they are usually discovered
accidentally. An ovarian cyst shows
symptoms only if it becomes too big or if
it becomes complicated (ruptured or
infarcted). A complicated ovarian cyst
causes great pain that doesn’t coincide
with menstruation. So my opinion is that
even if you have ovarian cyst, it does not
seem to be the cause of dysmenorrhea.
There could be several reasons for
dysmenorrhea, organic or functional. I
recommend you to visit your gynecologist.
A vaginal ultrasound, colposcopy, and
Pap-test will be necessary to correctly
diagnose your condition.
