Posted: 03-29-06 10:53am

i started the depo last june and had my last one in August, since then me and my husband have been trying for a baby. Last friday i started to spot brown stuff, then on saturday i thought i started my af, but over the period of 4 days i only showed a little blood, but yesterday and today i was showing that brown stuff again when i wiped myself.I have been showing preggie signs for four weeks now, so two weeks ago i went to my doctor, and the preggire test was negative but she wanted me to go back tomorrow. Shall i still go for my preggie test tomorrow or is there no chance i can be pregnant

If a pregnancy test is negative, spotting is most likely not a sign of pregnancy; it could be functional or organic. Functional spotting is caused by a hormonal disturbance which is very possible in cases where depo-contraception has been used. Depo-contraception has a prolonged effect on the individual. One of its expected side effects is irregular vaginal bleeding (spotting). Temporary lack of ovulation after coming off the contraception is also one of its side effects. Therefore, conception could be difficult in the first 6 months after coming off depo-contraception. Other, organic reasons for spotting could be infections, tumors, etc. You can visit your gynecologist to identify the cause for the spotting.
