My mother has been taking zoloft for about
6 weeks now for depression and panic
attacks. She has not seen any results
thus far but their have been side-effects
(anxiety, drowsiness and diarrhea). How
long does it take zoloft to start being
effective and are these side-effects
normal? She is also taking xanex but
that was prescribed by the same physician.
Any information on this would be very
helpful.

Personally I think she needs to go see
another doc 'cause xanax and zoloft
together make you a zombie, but you might
have to give the anti-depressants another
week or two, you have to give them time to
work into your mother's body. I think my
doctor told me like 6-8 weeks or something
like that.

hi,
i was on celexa first and now I am on
effexor. In both cases, my docs told me
it would talk around six weeks before I
would notice any difference, especially
since they were gradually building up my
dosages. It seems to me that most
anit-depressants are almost the same in
that regard. I am a 42 year old woman
and on both medications, I have found a
lowered sex-drive. I have recently seen
ads about wellbutrin and I will discuss
changing medications when I see my doc on
tuesday. I really don't like the lack of
sex-drive thing because it seems to me
that the wonderful intimacy I shared with
my husband prior to all this would help my
whole situation.
I also complained about a lack of
motivation. I used to go to the gym
religiously and now -- i'm not. My doc
had spoken about giving me something to
supplement the anti-depressant in order to
get that motivation back.
At this time, all I know for sure is that
in my case, they shouldn't call these
pills "anti-depressants" because the
depression, etc doesn't go away.
