Hypoglycemia And Exercise Posted: 03-31-06 10:33am
Hi,
i've been trying to get back to my
exercise routine lately and it seems to be
making the hypoglycemia worse. I make
sure I eat before and after my work-outs
but still in the late afternoon I have
more symptoms. I usually exercise in the
early or late morning - cardio and weights
- about an hour total.
I'm hoping to lose some weight and I know
exercise is an important component. I
hope it's just a matter of adjusting to a
new routine.

Sorry to say you probably shouldn't be
doing that yet based on the carbohydrate
intake you said you had. If you're below
60g it's going to be really, really hard
to get back into your previous routine, if
it's possible at all. If anything, you
should be starting around 20-30 minutes
first. If you do 30 minutes of cardio,
cut it down to like 10-15 minutes, and
then have 10-15 minutes of the weight
training. Start very slow at first, to
see how you adjust. Try eating nuts
right after.

I can't remember, but did you say you were
eating any fruit at all?

Hi stan,
yes, i'm eating mostly berries -
stawberries, blueberries, raspberries and
occasionally half of a small apple.
I guess I do need to start exercising in
shorter, less instense sessions. I
didn't exercise today and I feel pretty
good this afternoon. I'll just have to
start in gradually and see what happens.
I used to do some weights first and then
cardio like the trainers recommended but I
just was exhausted after a short time on
the treadmill or elliptical machine. Now
I do the cardio first and it seems to work
better.
Thanks for the input.

Okay, yeah, just take your time with it.
I made several mistakes at first thinking
I could just jump back in to everything.
Don't do that, take it easy, you could
even start at 15 minutes total for
everything, maybe every day with a break
here and there, just to see how you handle
it.
