Breastfeeding Vs Formula
Posted: 03-31-06 13:28pm

So i'm trying to decide which is right for me. I want to use formula but i'm wondering how much money we'd save by breastfeeding instead (since I won't be working and anywhere we can save money will help).

Which do you do or plan to do and why?

What brand of formula do you use and how much does it cost (per week, I guess)?

Any advice or tips would be helpful. I still have plenty of time to think about it though.

Thanks!

You can always try breast feeding and if it doesn't work for you, then don't do it. There is a lot of guilt associated with breast feeding - whether to do it or not, how long to do it. Etc. Don't feel at all guilty. Breast feeding is best only when it works best for the mom!

You can go to formula websites and get on their coupon list. You'll get free samples of formula send to you and you'll get tons of coupons. (have some sent to your mom's house also! And even your friends. That way you'll get more!)

on average you'd save about $1000 in the first year. At least that's what i've read.

I breastfed my son for the first yr of his life. Still does every once in a while. Hed only have bottles when I was at work. We tried everrrrry brand of formula on the market he hated them all. Turns out hes lactose intolerant. Anyways now he drinks soy milk not formula soy but real soy. Vanilla by silk. Its expensive as all get out when you think about it. It only comes in 1/2 gallons and is like $4 for each one... And he'll go thru like one a day. Its like a starbucks addiction! Hahah

my best advice is breatsfeed if you can! Plus when you think about it there are sooo many benefits of breastfeeding! Google them!

Breastfeeding is better for babies. I'd definitely try it (and keep trying - it can be tough at first).

With my oldest, I had to wean him abruptly when he was 4 months old (i went into the hospital) and used similac formula.

I breast feed most of my kids and found that I saved so much money. I had a little girl who was premie and could not take my nipple so I pumped for as long as I could but finally had to switch to similac. I sent a lot of money and missed the bonding that I had with my other children when I breastfeed. I also noticed that I lost my wieght faster with breastfeeding, so I hope to breast feed again this time. Good luck with deciding on which way you want to go.

Has anyone ever breast feed with a nipple ring? Is it possible?

Thanks. Do you know if your friend was able to put the ring back in or if they healed up completely?
