Got My Period Today :(
Posted: 04-02-06 00:32am

I had an iui done on march 20th, I prayed probably every minute of every day since that I would have a positive pt, but "aunt flo" came to see me this morning. Darn it! My re told me after my iui to a hpt monday but I don't even have to. I am getting pretty discouraged, something goes wrong or my tests are negative everytime. Ladies for those of you who have done iui was it successful for you? Is it something perhaps that I am doing wrong? I am now up to 100mg of clomid and my hormones are raging, my poor sweetie lol. I start taking my clomid tomorrow and we will try again hopefully the outcome will more positive. Good luck to all of us.

I'm sorry to hear that your iui did not take this time. Are you going to try another one?

Thank you for your support abbymom, we do plan to try again. Other than invitro, iui is our only option and we just can't afford ivf. My re recommends iui to ivf, at least for now, anyway. We could adopt because there is nothing wrong with adopting and we hope to in the future, but for the here and now we feel like we are making the right decision by trying iui again.

Hi Vanessa

Sorry to hear about your unsuccessful iui. I was thinking about doing it sometime
can I ask the reason you opt for iui? I am on clomid and nothing seem to happen thus far. My first cycel of clomid didn't work. The 2nd work, but ttc wasn't successful...:(

hope you can share. Thanks

Hi debb,
we opted for iui because because we aren't exactly infertile but we for some reason can't get pregnant together. My re recommended iui first and that was what we were going to choose anyway because we can't afford ivf at this point. If the iui are continuous unsuccessful we will do all we can to raise money to try ivf. Hope this helps and I hope your next iui is successful.

Thanks vanessa.
How many times have you tried iui? Do you know the success rate? I was not sure, need to check with my gynea about it. I hope my hubby will be co-operative to give his sperm.

Hi debb,
well, I am anovulatory which means I do not ovulate on my own and I have had endometreosis since I was 19 but my re is a good doctor and I have complete confidence in him. He says that as long as I am responding to the clomid, which I am, that I stand just as good of chance of conceiving as any other healthy couple. The success rate is different for everyone, he put me in the 70% success braket per cycle. I have read sooooo much on the internet about iui and the first cycle and the fourth cycle have the lowest success rate. My re says if I have not conceived after the fourth iui attempt that trying again is probably not a good idea, if that is the case he recommends ivf. I live in al and I see a doctor at the kirklin clinic at uab hospital in birmingham, here is a site from uab that I read and I found it very helpful. Please check it out and see if it helps answer any questions you have. Uab health system intrauterine insemination (iui) <iui intrauterine insemination
best,

One of my fellow teacher tried ttc for about a year. Both husband and wife r fertile slim n fit but couldn't conceive at all. They did iui with clomid for 3 cycles n all negative. So the doc told them to take a break before ttc again maybe for ivf if they want to... So this fellow teacher was depressed and stopped after the 3rd cycle of iui, n guess what she conceived immediately the following month naturally...

I guess she needed all the fertility meds to jum start her body system to work correctly n after stopping n trying she conceived naturally... She was also stressed up during the iui sessions...

This month she is in her 9th month of pregnancy n has gone on early maternity leave to rest n relax before the delivery which is due in 2 weeks time...

So stay relaxed n it will work in for u... But if after 4cycles n a negative then iui might not be working for u at all...

Thanks van for sharing. Really appreciated it. When are you due for the next iui. If you are responding to clomid then it is like me, I was not given the opt to about iui. You can actually try on your own, right?

Wow, that's encouraging, lovable.

I am not sure if I want to do the iui but it is certainly a good alternative. I may ask my gynea about it. I will see what he recommend.

Van, what's the process like. Do you know when you acutally ovulate and ready for the iui??

Hey debb,
the most accurate way to describe an iui is it is just like having a pap smear. A speculum is inserted to keep the cervix open and then a small cath. Is threaded up into the uterus, the washed sperm are placed directly in the uterus so they do not have to swim through cervical mucus, then the syringe is pressed and the sperm are released. I did not feel the sperm being released, some women do. Once the cath. Is touching the uterus it is, to me, a little uncomfortable like period cramps but nothing I couldn't handle. I cramped afterwards for about 4 days. I am not good at noticing when I ovulate and I have trouble reading those opk so I bought something called an ov watch. It measures hormone levels in the female body. Go to ov watch and check it out. Unfortunately we learned that we were pregnant and I lost the baby :*(
good luck to you.

Oh van,
sorry dear to hear that you lost our baby. Can I ask what actually happen? Was it that you didn't realise when you were preggy. Ok I know this may sound strange. My neighbour told me not to drink pineapple juice while ttc. I was expecting to be preg last month, but I didn't know that I should avoid pineapple as it actually cause miscarriage.

I have actually heard the opposite about pineapple juice. I have heard that you should drink it after you ovulate because it helps with implantation.

Oh really. I read from the web once and said that papaya and pineapples are not good for ttc. But then again, I could be wrong. You know sometimes you can't trust what you read on the web.

Debb,
my re nurse thinks that the embryo attached itself, or tried I should say, to late to my endometrium and miscarriage was the result. She told me that 3-7 days is when implantion should occur, anytime after that she informed me that the uterus/cervix begins to harden again, and the transforming embryo has nothing to attach itself to, thus a woman's body begins to prepare for a cycle. Whoa!! That was all greek to me, but I am reading as much as I can about the things she told me so I am beginning to understand a little better now. I pray we have better luck this cycle.
Best,
vanessa

I am sorry for your loss and you are not alone, we are here for you!

Vanessa2077 I quit trying and that is when things happened, it seemed the more anxious and stress I got the more difficult it became to become pregnant, I am not saying to stop your ffertility treatments at all, I am just saying to quit stressing, you might see a difference, I know that it is easier said than done because I too had lost two with the birth control and abuse many years ago.

Good luck!

Vanessa - I hope the next iui works for you. At least you are gaining a better knowledge of what is going on. Have you read taking charge of your fertility. I am reading it now and it is very good.

Debb - I agree with what you say about the internet. Each site you go to seems to have conflicting information on it. Who knows what you can believe.
