Some Questions...

Ok, so I am 20weeks pregnant and I just
went to the doctor today for a check-up...
My doctor really didn't answer my
questions all that well and I am wondering
if any of you have asked the same
questions and got an actual answer.
Is it okay, according to your doctors to
use a sunless tanner...Like a lotion that
gradually tans? And what do your
doctor's say about coloring your hair.
Just curious, my doctor is a little more
on the "natural" side and I think that's
why she didn't give me a straight answer.
Lastly, she told me that my uterus is
above my belly button and it is usually
right at your belly button when you are 20
weeks so it's higher than usual... Hmmm.
I have my ultrasound tomorrow, so we will
see!
Sorry so long, thanks for the help!

Is this your 1st child?
As far as the hair coloring, it's ok after
the 1st trimester. Sunless tanners are
actually reccomended instead of uv rays.
But you can go to a tanning bed maybe once
every 2 weeks if you were going prior.
I remember my 20 weeks visit and he let me
feel the top of my uterus and it was about
1/2 inch/inch above my b button...He
didn't say anything about it though.
I'm now 36.3 weeks pregnant and about to
hit my mark!! The best advice I can give
is just make sure you drink plenty of
water throughout your pregnancy. And stay
up on your prenatals!!

Yeah babymajic covered it as I would..If
it helps though...I used sunless tanners
throughout my pregnancy ..Because I hate
being pale white...And my son came out
perfectly normal..The hair coloring thing
always scared me although during my 28th
or 29th week of pregnancy I colored my
hair in a well- ventilated room...Windows
up fans blowing..Because my doc said its
better not to breathe in the color..As for
your uterus...Im not so sure ..I never had
those kinds of problems...But if your
doctor isnt giving you the answers you
need..Maybe you should find another doctor
that will better help you..And make you
understand everything throughout your
pregnancy..(because my doctor always made
sure I understood everything ..Even if it
took 30 minutes to explain)

Went very well...Thanks.
They said they think its a girl!
Everything looked how it was supposed
to...She said everything looks good and
the baby's measurements are correct for 20
weeks.
It really is amazing all that they are
able to see....
Thanks everyone for the info!
Ps I am thinking about a different doctor!

What are the risks of having a perm done
in the first trimester? I notice alot
talked about coloring but not perms.

Wouldnt a perm be worse than hair coloring
they put all those chemicals in your head
and you breath them in and hurt the baby

I am not sure about the colouring your
hair part. If your doctor didn't help,
ask your hair salon as well. When I
called to make an appointment for
highlights (at 16 weeks). She said there
is no problem with highlights, but they
wouldn't colour (dye) the whole head. So
maybe you can get away with just
highlighting your hair ??? (i have read
that in many books too, to highlight your
hair instead of dying)
i am not sure about getting a perm, I
would think it is the same as hair dying,
the chemicals are right on your scalp.
Ask a couple of hair salons and your
doctor on that one.
The same with sunless lotions, I keep
reading to use that instead of sun tanning
beds or in the actual sun.

Alot of doctors on this side of the world
strongly recomend against using hair dyes
(or getting a perm) during your whole
pregnancy (not just the 1st trimester) as
the effects of the chemicals arent really
known. Hair dye can be obsorbed through
your skin and affect they baby that way.
Personaly I wouldn't take the risk. But a
non permanent hair dye wouldn't have any
where near as much affect.
