Q: I Am 8 Weeks Pregnant And Just Found Out I Have Chlimidya.

My doctor just called me yesterday to let me know that my test for chlimidya was positive. He gave me a prescription, but I am very scared that this has/will pass to my baby.
I just got married recently, and my husband and I are faithful to one another.

I had unprotected sex before I met him, more than I year ago. Is it possible that I got infected then and never showed up any syntoms? Also they told my husband that I may have caught this std recently otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get pregnant. Is this possible? I never slept with anybody else.

Please help me, I am going crazy.

Luna

I don't think you could have had this disease for over a year. If it isn't treated, it would cause severe complications. So as I said, highly unlikely that this has been sitting dormant for so long. I would take the medication prescribed to you by your doctor, he would not give you something that would harm your baby. It is better to take the medication and treat the disease, than not, not treating it could harm your baby. Good luck with everything

Chlamydia infection is very common among young adults and teenagers. However, many people do not know that they have chlamydia, because although they are infected, they may not have any symptoms. About 75% of infected women and half of infected men have no symptoms of chlamydia.
Normally its caused by multiple sex partners or lack of contraceptive usage.
Chlamydia can cause early labor and delivery and can be passed from mother to baby during birth. Chlamydia infection in newborns can cause neonatal conjunctivitis (an infection of the baby's eyes) and pneumonia. Without prompt medical treatment, the infant's eyes can be seriously and permanently damaged.
I believe treatment of this in pregnancy would either be erythromycin or amoxicillin.
If chlamydia's left untreated yes, it could cause infetility. Its probably best for you to ask your husband to be tested as well coz if you got it from him there's a chance that he could pass it again on you.
During treatment you're not supposed to have sexual intercourse.
Hth and good luck on your pregnancy

There is a possibility that you had it for over a year since chlamydia can be undetected for years with no symptoms, however it may had been very hard for you to get pregnant. I really don't know what i'd do in your position, talk to your husband about it and see what he says. If you haven't cheated and you're sure he hasn't, just make sure that your doctor treats you and gets it sorted...In terms of your relationship - it may just be one of those things that you have to forget about in order to get on with your future.

Good luck xx

Thank You For All of Your Replies!
I am very glad to read your replies. It comforts me a lot, since I am embarrased to tell anyone other than my husband. I took the one dosage medicine that the doctor gave me and I would get tested again in a couple of weeks.

Honestly, you could have gotten chlamydia from your husband (and i'm not saying he's cheated). A lot of times men have it but are asymptomatic and unwittingly pass it on to their partners... It might be in his best interest to get tested, too. As for passing it on to the baby, I can't forsee that being an issue, but share your concerns with your doctor. Good luck!

Your husband doesn't need to bother getting tested. He does need to be treated though or this will become a vicious circle of infection. The partner is always supposed to be treated in the case of chlamydia. Get him to see his doc and get a prescription for the same antibiotic you took. And I would imagine your doc wants you to get re-tested in a couple of weeks to make sure the meds worked. Good luck with everything
