the Doctor Appointment! Posted: 04-05-06 13:47pm
So I made an appointment for the doctors
to see what was going on, (periods have
been getting increasing late just lately
and now seem to have stopped entirely)
my normal doctor wasnt there but I managed
to get in with another, she was really
nice, I have got to go for blood tests
tomorrow at the hospital and she wants to
send me for a scan to check my ovaries,
she thinks my symptoms sound like it could
be pcos, I dont have a date for the scan
yet but I should hear soon.
In some ways I feel relieved that finally
something is being done because I have
known for a while that something isnt
right but my usual doctor never wants to
listen, but saying that, the thought of
having pcos is a scary one. I have been
trying to look it up as I didnt know much
about it and I do have some of the
symptoms, my periods have always been
irregular or non existent for long periods
of time, I am overweight and even with
diets and exercise find it hard to get rid
of the weight, my hair is falling out, I
have oily skin and spots even though I am
24... And the list goes on! The one
thing that I dont understand though is do
you always have pcos or can it develop
anytime because I have 2 children already,
neither were planned, wouldnt I have had
trouble conceiving them if I had it?

I don't know much about pcos but I do know
that it is possible to conceive if you
have it. It may just require some meds
and some procedures for you in the future.
My husband's cousin has pcos and she
conceived twins using clomid. I am happy
that you found a doctor who will listen to
you. It is so frustrating when they
won't. Will you be able to stay with
this doctor or will you have to switch
back to your other one?

How did it go at the doctors cogoli?
I had my bloods done yesterday, still
waiting for an appointment for the scan,
did you have to have a scan?
I know I am extremely lucky to have two
children esp. If I have pcos. We are ttc
for baby no3,
the thing is the more I think about it the
more I hope it is pcos because I just want
to have an explanation for whats going on,
does that sound stupid? I dont know what
will happen if it isnt I suppose I will be
going for more tests!
I will have to go back to my normal doctor
from now on, the one I saw yesterday was
only a locum so she was just filling in
while my doc was away, but now I have been
referred to a consultant gynea for the
scan hopefully he will help sort the
problem!

Why would you need to do that, granted, I
dont know that much about pcos but putting
you on bc for a year when you are ttc
doesnt make sense. I am sure I read
somewhere that bcp's can help but only
while you are taking them, so once you
stop you go back to how you were. I hope
you get some better advice from a
different doctor.

Thats what im say'n she said I need to
give my ovaries a rest for a yr. Or at
least 6-9 months but she recomends a
yr.Pleaseeee i've read proble over 20
websites on this.. And no where does it
say "give them a rest" my appointment is
friday im going to tell them I want a
baby.. I know im only 20 but its my
choice not theres. Thats why im thinkin
the doctor thought maybe I am too young,
but ne ways how are you doing did you get
any results back yet?? I seen your post
on everyone gettin preg but not you..
Hang in there.. At least we know whats
wrong with us and they going to help us..
Sooo we'll get through it. Watch we will
be preg together!! Then we'll really have
something to talk about.. Good news not
bad stuff
good luck! Ttyl

Don't let them tell you that your too
young for a child if thats what you want.
I'm 24 and after baby no3, just let them
tell me I am not old enough!!!! Lol! In
all the stuff I have looked up about pcos
I have never heard about giving them a
rest either, sounds strange to me.
I havent got results yet, I will ring the
clinic tomorrow afternoon but it might
take as long as tuesday. I hope I will
get my scan appt this week too.
Thanks for the support in the other post!
I am feeling much better, it was just
beginning to get me down I dont know why
but I thought ttc would be alot easier
than this!
It would be great to be pregnant at the
same time! Support group all the way
through lol!

Hi there! It really sounds like you are
really stressing way too much about having
a baby, that could be part of the reason
things are not happening about having a
baby and your hair is falling out and you
are gaining weight, 1st off true, I am not
a dr, but I know of a lot of women that
have had a lot of these problems, not
necessarily, pcos, but their have been
some, I would like to try to help, take it
or leave it. #1 do not call it stress,
call it nerves, stress sounds like a
disease which I realize that it can be but
we need to be positive, #2breathe, your
stomache goes out, your breathing comes in
and visa versa, #3 learn to enjoy sex ,if
you do not already, do not do it just
because or because you are tryingto get
pregnant, talk to your dr about clomid or
research it yourself or their is other
products out their too, what works for
some may not work for others #4 ask
yourself are you sure you want another
baby and go thru all of that again or
maybe adopt one they always look soo cute
when they are little babies but then they
get sick, their are times when you do not
sleep when they are teething or their is
something wrong, do I really want this.
My cousin and some friends of mine used to
lose their hair due to nerves, my .Aunt
could not talk, she always yelled at
everything and everyone causing my
cousin(my aunts daughter) became almost
bald from her mother yelling(stress or
nerves, whatever you want to call it was
what the dr told my cousin and my aunt).
Again jollie, I must remind you, I am no
doctor but I used to be fairly
over-weight, my dr told me that the best
thing to is to drink a lot of water
because it does help it does slow down th
appetite but you do need to eat something,
fad diets and otc diet pills never worked
for me and inever want to get started on
the meth they have now, that sounds like
some pretty nasty stuff, no thanxs, I will
stick to my water and going to the gym and
walking.
The best to you!

The best to
you!
this will be our third child and even
though we may sound like it, we are not
stressing over it. I already have two
children so I am not desperate for it to
happen right away or anything! I have
had a bad week and I have been abit
stressed because my periods have stopped
for no reason and im alittle worried and
puzzled as to why, even if I wasnt ttc
this would stress me out abit, im only
24!. I dont do fad diets either I eat
healthy food, drink water and go to
exercise classes twice a week, not to
mention the fact I walk everywhere because
I dont drive. I have spoken about all of
this to the doctor and she thought it was
more than just nerves and stress!.
Around 3/4yrs ago my periods stopped for
2years and my doctor put it down to stress
and being overweight. I dont know why I
wasnt that big or that stressed at the
time, but anyways I started eating better
and taking relaxation techniques on board
and it didnt help at all. When I went to
the doctors this time I expected to be
told the same thing and she said being
stressed and overweight wouldnt help me
have a normal cycle or concieve but shes
pretty sure it isnt the sole cause of the
problem.
Why should I think whether I really want
another baby...I had wonderful experiences
with my other 2 children which is why I
want another, and if its pcos or anything
else I will still give it ago because I
know it will all be worth it.
Thanks for giving me some advice tho!!
Cogoli ~phoned up for my results and they
are back but I was too late, my doctor had
already gone home so the receptionist left
a msg to ask her to call me in the
morning. How are you today?

Well my doctors receptionist phoned
earlier and my results are back, first off
I am lacking in iron and have anaemia, I
have been given some iron sulphate tablets
to take for the next 9 days (3 daily),
although as far as I know this wouldnt
stop my periods???
Also she said my level of testosterone is
3.6 where the normal levels are 3. She
told me the doctor said because this is
only a slight rise it shouldnt be a
problem??. So to be honest I am not any
clearer to working out whats going on!
So I am just going to take the iron
tablets and hope my scan appt will come
through soon, hopefully this will help.
If I havent heard anything soon I shall go
back.

I dont think that should stop your periods
but im not sure... Did the doctor say
that the weight wsa from pcos?? I'm
really can't wait for friday im hoping
that they give me some meds to help me..
Did they start you on anything else to
help you ovulate?? I hope what they gave
you helps you out..My test show that
everything was normal has far as blood
count and sugar no anema so hopefully they
start something right away. Well keep me
posted.

I'm so happy that you found a doctor who
isn't going to but you on birth control.
I don't know anything about that drug but
I think there are a couple of women on
here who take it.

Your an adult and it really isn't their
decision so they should just treat your
medical condition and keep their opinions
to themselves. I hope your tx goes well.
