Q: Packing For Hospital ????? Help!!think Im Missin Sumthing!

Im starting to pack my things for the hospital, mainly the diaper bag for the baby.. I feel like something is missing!!

I have...

15 newborn diapers and wipes
a diaper shirt
sleeper
pair of socks
shirt and pants
penaten cream and baby powder
2 receiving blankets
pacifier

im not sure if I have to bring my own bottles and formula.. I forget so ill have to look into it.. But is there anything else I should be bringing with me? Or even anything else that should be in my diaper bag for future use?

I live in ontario and I know you have to have an approved infant car seat before they will let you leave the hospital. We have a infant car seat that/ carrier that came with our travel system and we also have a 3 in 1 convertible car seat.. Which is the one we are going to be using in our car, now they say to install it before the babys born. If we install it before the babys born how do we show the hospital that we have the approved car seat?? I guess I should bring the carrier with me as well??? I really dont want to forget anything!

Stuff For Baby
I was wondering about the car seat thing too, but nobody ever actually checked- they just asked me if we had one (both times I was bringing a baby home, 2 different hospitals)

baby needs comfy warm soft things. Just bring sleepers and little vests - don't bother with anything that doesn't open from the bottom- ie, stuff that you'd have to take right off to change the nappies- also try to bring the ones with "feet" in them, so you don't need the socks ( I have never seen a sock that will stay on a nweborn foot for more than 10 seconds!!)
new babies .H.A.T,e getting changed- you want to be as quick as possible.Anything with fiddly bits, buttons, or stuff that you have to do up at the back are a no-no.
Cooton wool balls are better than wipes for the firt few days (weeks) just dip in plain warm water and clan baby's bum. You will need a packet of the cotton balls anyway- for cleaning baby's eye's etc.
You won't need talc. Most hospitals like you to bring your own bottles and formula, if you plan to bottle feed, but they probabkly wont let your baby go hungry if you forget. It's really great if you can breastfeed for the first few days (not to mention less packing) but you need to do whatever you are comfortable with.
15 nappies will probably last about 2 days. Bring a few extra.
Alot of newborn babies like to wear a little hat, because they lose a lot of heat from their heads. You might like to bring one in case your baby likes it.
Good luck!!!

I know that when I had my daughter the nurse walked us to the car and thats when she saw the car seat. We also didnt have to bring any dipers wipes, formula, bottles the hospital gave us everything. The only thing we need was baby cloths to put the baby in when we were in the hospital. Other then that the baby needed nothing. Make sure you bring some comfortable swetpants or pj's to wear after the baby is born. Good luck!! And god bless ur little on! Congrats!!!

Oh ok, I would then make sure u have a change of cloths in the diper bag, and bottles are you doing power or liquid formula. If you are doing powder, I would have 2oz bottle of water (maybe 3 or 4) and the formula mix, if you do the luqid you will have to bring it as you need it.

I am not sure about taking a diaperbag....Havn't gotten that far yet.

However, when my sister had her baby I drove her car to pick her and the baby up and the nurse weeled her out to the car and looked at the carseat and the install and checked it off the list.

Most hospitals provide diapers, wipes, diaper cream forumula and bottle all you really need is babys going home outfit and a diaper or two....

They will need a hat since babies loose their heat through their head and I think you got the majority of it!!

Depends!! I would've never thought of that!! I was gonna just bring some huge pads....But I think depends would be a whooooole lot better!!!

I don't have a diaper bag yet so I can't do any of this stuff!!! I wish I could!! We .F.I.N.A.L.L.Y got the entire baby room done!! Yay!! Now we're installing new windows in the whole house cuz our are from like the 60's and they let all of our cool air out and you can hear everything!!!

One of the things I got alot of at my shower was diaper bags!! I got 4 but everyone gave me the receipts so I took 2 back and kept 2.. 1 is bigger then the other.. The bigger one I plan on using for the hospital and for when were going out for longer periods of time.. And the other slighly smaller one if were just going out to the store or w/e.. Then I have 1 that is like a backpack (that I personally like the best) thats gonna be packed for my bf to use lol

i got a hat in my bag.. I gotta sleeper with a matching hat. It sounds like maybe I havent forgotten anything. Im waiting till I get everything in the apartment situated till I pack my bag.. Cuz during the 4 days it took me to put all my baby shower stuff away, I didnt clean anything else and now its a disaster!

Unreal, your hospital does not supply diapers. You will need more than 15 diapers. That is about 1 days supply when they are first born.

It may do some good to call the hospital and ask them what the "etc" actually means. They should be providing you with everything from sanitary napkins to diapers and everything else you will need while there!

Hopefully they will provide you with a supply of formula if you are going to need it and also if you are going to nurse there should be a lactation specialist assigned to you and your little one so that you can be shown the proper way to nurse. If I did not watch while the nurse was teaching my wife, I would never have known how to feed my son from the bottle and have hos mouth properly on the nipple of the bottle so that it was the same way that my wife had to have him latch to her. She never had soreness nor callouses because she was taught by a great teacher! You need to have the lanolin nipple cream if you are going to nurse or you will be hurting for sure!

I cannot imagine that you need to bring that much with you but maybe it is really that different in canada. Here they don't want you to bring anything because they provide everything and even send you home with a case of formula and several packages of diapers, wipes, tucks (you will need them!!!), sanitary napkins and loads of goodies.

Remember to have fun while you are in the hospital and use the nursing staff as much as you can because when you get home you are all on your own and it is not easy the first few weeks. Thankfully, I am a stay at home dad and I was able to care for both my wife and my baby.

Good luck,
brian

I dont think you will need depends but you will be using the thickest pads you have ever worn before. My wife referd to them as matress pads. They are really thick and yes you are going to bleed a ton and lots of clots will come out for the first few days. You wont even care after it is all said and done.

Make sure you get as many as you can from the hospital because I don't know if you can buy them out in the regular stores.

I have been well. Rasing a child is hard.... :p I don't do much in the way of surfing the net because I am a busy guy all the time. You know, cook, clean, laundry... A mans work is never done.

I think that is how it goes. :)

how have you been?

you will need a minimum of 100 of the newborn sized diapers. They grow fast but the 1's are simply too big unless the baby is 12 or more pounds. I am not sure how the companies come up with there weight to size ratio but our son was in the newborns for at least a month and we used 18 to 20 diapers a day for almost 2 months. At about 2 months they will slow down as far as how often they go potty but the loads get much bigger!

Good luck,
brian
