Denervation

Dear all

for those of you who read my other threads you will be amazed to learn that I had the diagnostic si, facet, & pubic symphysis joint injections. The doctor gave me lots of sedative as I could barely sign the consent form for shaking. I don't remember much about the procedure itself but the week after I was in agony. I couldn't even lay down for a couple of nights. I worked my way through every combo of pain killers until I reached valium which helped a little!

Lack of sleep, a toddler, pain etc was not good for my mental well being last week and unfortunately I don't have much help available from friends and family.

I have seen the consultant again and the news isn't good.

He wants to do denervation which he estimates will take longer than 4 months to recover from. He says (for various reasons) that I will suffer more than most and that I am in for a stormy time. Then once that is done I have to do it all over again. He is basically going to do it in 2 sessions as there is so much to be done. He is going to administer prolotherapy injections at the same time.

If I don't have this done I won't be able to carry a baby. As I recently had a miscarriage this is devasting news as it means that i'll have to wait at least another year before I start trying again and in addition to this, I am terrified! I barely got through the diagnostics and now he wants to do this. The pain I experienced with the diagnostic injections will be nothing compared to what he's predicting I will go through. Have any of you had denervation? I really am scared and i'm starting to get a bit depressed I think.

I am scared about the procedure itself and the aftermath. The dr said I could stay in the hospital over night and he said he will give me morphine afterwards. This sounds like it's going to be torture. :o

any advice from you guys will be greatly appreciated. You guys really helped me get through the diagnostics and i'm hoping you will all help me get through this!
:grouphug:

thank you xxxxxx

I am so sorry to hear the bad news but let's try and think positive. I am sorry that you do not have much help but we are here for you. At least your dr is trying to help you! I understand your pain and all. I have rsd, ddd, djd among other things but I still wish I was their to help you! I know it is your choice but I do hope you stay and get the morphine and let him knw that the valium is helping, you might feel like a guinea pig the way he changes your meds. The main thing is is to not give up, their is hope, ask your Dr. About a pain pump or a stimulator if this does not help and try to get some in home help for awhile. Are you married? Your dr can also help with your depression, just ask and let him know everything that is going on, write it down and keep a journal as it is better out that in! Don't forget, I am here for you!
You are in my thoughts!
If you do not feel right you can always get a second opinion!
The best to you!

Hi

Ive had facet and si joint injections to help diagnose joint pain.
My scans show up normal with no indication of any problems.
I would never recommend having any `diagnostic` joint injections unless you know for sure the pain is coming form that area.
The injections into my facet joints caused pain that wasnt coming from there in the first place.
The facet injections have caused 90% of my back pain, they dont heal properly.

I should never of had them done

it hurts now when I stand straight or lift
