My mother has been taking zoloft for about
6 weeks now for depression and panic
attacks. She has not seen any results
thus far but their have been side-effects
(anxiety, drowsiness and diarrhea). How
long does it take zoloft to start being
effective and are these side-effects
normal? She is also taking xanex but that
was prescribed by the same physician. Any
information on this would be very helpful.

Try life extension foundation (look it up
on a search engine, aslo look up zoloft
& xanex & contraindications &
side effects of each via a search engine
like google or yahoo).
Good luck

I was put on zoloft when I was 17 and
diagnosed with antisocial personality
disorder.
It takes a while for it to actually take
hold.
I stopped taking it on my own as I noticed
a marked effect on my thought patterns, it
made me go days on end without sleep, and
caused sexual dysfunction.
It also had some strange smaller effects,
such as clammy skin. At the time, I used
drugs much more frequently than I do
now.
I've always had a soft spot in my heart
for marijuana, and zoloft pretty much
eliminated the effects of marijuana.
So I stopped taking it.
It may sound strange, but no other drug
ever balanced my moods out like marijuana.

First of all it takes about 6 weeks before
the medication is at its full potential it
may take longer in some people, so she
should just be patient.I take zoloft and
when it really took effect it was like
someone turned on a lightbulb in my
life.My doctor prescribed it initially to
try to control [to a point] the tics from
my turretts syndrome and with the
depression that goes along with it.So give
it some time,it's worth the wait.

I am also on zoloft and it takes more than
a month or so to start taking effect. It
could be possible that her dosage isn't
enough for her either, but that will be
recognized with time and they will slowly
up her dosage. It isn't going to work
overnight and I know its frustrating, you
just must be patient.
