Meds And Pregnancy Posted: 04-11-06 16:01pm
So i'm at that point where having a baby
is something I can start preparing for.
I'm sooooo worried. I"ve heard that they
don't know all the side effects of adm's
on the fetus. I'm currently on 300mb
wellbutrin and 20mg celexa per day. I've
gone a day or 2 without my meds and it's
not a pretty picture. I want to have a
baby, but decreasing the wellbutrin
(probably don't need to decrease the
celexa as it's only 20mg) will be hard for
me. But I don't want to hurt the baby.
I don't know what to do..... I mean my
fiance told me that we could probably
manage to let me be a stay at home mom for
awhile. So I know I could take naps when
the baby does, but i'm concerned about
pregnancy as I hear the hormones already
have you tore up, so imagining me like
that and not on my regular doses of
meds.....Scary!! I'm not the type of
depressant where I will try to kill
myself....For me it's more physical
problems. I can't wake up for 24 hours,
I won't take showers, I won't eat, but I
don't feel to overwhelmed, i'm worried
pregnancy will add to my issues. Any
experiences anyone has?

From my wellbutrin facts sheet and its
probably 20 pages long, it says no studies
were performed to study the affect of
pregnancy with the drug. It also says you
should only continue to take the
medication if absolutely necessary.
From a reputable website
--------------------
the effects of celexa during pregnancy
have not been adequately studied, and the
potential for harm has not been ruled out.
If you are pregnant or plan to become
pregnant while on celexa therapy, tell
your doctor immediately.
Celexa appears in breast milk and will
affect the nursing infant. You should
consider discontinuing either
breastfeeding or celexa. Talk with your
doctor about the pros and cons of each
option.
--------
i guess overall, if you dont really feel
you need the meds, taper off, but first
and this is very important talk to your
doctor, especially since I know absolutely
nothing about you. Either way, do not
stop taking the medications, you must
taper off to reduce the risk of severe
side-effects and possible worsening of
your condition. Also from a non-official
medical standpoint, doctors really dont
know how these drugs really work and what
can possibly happen so, in my opinion I
quit both drugs, but only if I was in a
relatively good mental state.
On a lighter note, I wish you the best of
luck with your future plans, a baby can
bring you great joy...... Have you
thought of any names yet?

Thanks For the Answers And Some More Info... Posted: 04-11-06 18:52pm
Actually I don't know if I am pregnant or
not. If I am it's unplanned, but my
fiance said that no matter what happens it
doesn't matter because "he loves me".
Plus he talks about wanting kids....Being
in the military most of our friends are
married and have children. We're both
stable financially to handle it...We'd
just have to get married a little sooner
then expected. I've always wanted to be
mom. I want to be a stay at home mom.
I'll be 30 this year so I know I don't
have that much time left if I want to have
several children. So i"m not stressing
so much on being pregnant or not, it's
more the medicine thing obviously.
I've had depression since I was 5 years
old.....Sad huh? I'm one of those people
who's brain just never started producing
the right combo of chemicals. I've tried
decreasing doses and going off meds .
I've tried so many different kinds of meds
to. But what it boils down to is I cannot
go off them, so I guess I gotta see my doc
asap. I'm gonna take a preg test
tonight...So if i'm not then no problems,
if I am, I gotta do something quick =( I
just want to have a healthy baby.

As with all anti-depression meds, you
should only continue them if it's
absolutely necessary.
If you're only getting the "blahs" but no
thoughts of self-harm, then you would need
to stop the medication while you were
pregnant. I think it's ok for like the
first 2 weeks, as the cells can correct
any defunctions (as in, the cells are
still new, so if some cells die, others
will take their place).
As for "safe", while my sister was
pregnant, she was put on wellbutrin. The
doctor told her it was the "safest" while
pregnant.
