My gyn called me today and told me my pap was abnormal. She thought it may be dysplasia. If I have contracted hpv I am worried about what it might do to my relationship with my fiancee (who is currently in iraq.) if I got it, it was before I was with him.
Anyway, I read a ton of articles on the virus, and i'm a little confused. Some say that in some women "it works itself out of your system." does that mean it goes away, or it just lies dormant. (i don't have warts by the way, it's another strain.)
i want to have children someday too. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a friend with hpv and from what I understood when she was explaining the condition to me was that it wouldn't affect if she had children..Unless it was a severe condition (hers was like the worst you can get) and that it is always in your body, but they have meds you can take to help from passing it on or help it from reoccuring. But if you don't have the strain with warts or cancer I wuoldn't worrry to much about it.. Hpv is one of the most common things that people have..Just most people don't know that they have it especially guys.

I was told that I had hpv almost 2 years ago (cervical dysplasia). You shouldn't worry about the effect it will have on your relationship with your boyfriend, because there is no way to tell when you contracted it. Hpv can stay dormant for years. As long as you get it taken care of soon, it won't affect your chances of having children in the future. What your ob/gyn will have to do is take a cervical biopsy; based on the results of the biopsy, they'll determine what treatment to do. If it's in the early stages (i'm assuming it is), they will do a cryotherapy -- they freeze the cervix, which kills of the "bad" cells. I had to go through 2 rounds of biopsies/cryotherapies before I had a normal pap smear again. But 2 years later, still getting normal paps. Hpv will always be in your system and there are currently no medications for it. However, the .F.D.A is coming out with a vaccine that can protect you from hpv for at least 4 years. Not sure when the vaccine will be on the market. Anyways, I hope this helped.
