Hey there.I was thinking of getting the
depo provera shot in around 2 weeks..I
just had a quick look for it on this forum
and only saw bad things. Is it really that
bad?Are there any good points to it?Does
anybody know if the side effects are
better or worse than the pill? Please
reply...Thanks

The side effects are the same, everyone is
different and some people rect badly.
**** the main thing to worry about is that
depo is not reversible easily like the
pill, so if you have side effects you are
stuck for 3 months until the hormones
fade..

For me, the very first time I got the depo
shot, I was bleeding the whole three
months. Doctor said that it was normal.
She said by the time I have two or three
shots, it should stop. Well anyway, I
never took the second shot. I got
pregnant with my second baby. Now I have
been on the shot now for almost 6 months.
No bleeding what-so-ever. But all the
stuff i've heard, and reading this book
about this girl who was one the depo, I
think i'm going to change my mind. For
some girls it's different. Now my only
problems are I feel like a big fat cow!!
It's made me gain weight. My son is
almost 9 months old, haven't lost any
weight. Thats why im getting off of it.
All birth controls are risks. Like I
was on the patch, it kept falling off. I
put it on like I was suppose to, it would
just fall off. And some people who took
it the patch, had blood clots and
everything like that. With all the side
effects, very bad mood swings, weight
gain, but i'm really not sure what I want
to do. Cuz I don't want another baby,
but I also, want to be here for my kids.
You know what i'm saying? I have mixed
feelings about it. Alls I can tell you
is to try it, if you like it stay with it.
If I took the pill, I would probably
forget to take that everday. So I don't
know.

Sherry, consider an iud, it has no
hormones(you could get the hormonal one
which only acts locally) and is good for
at least 10 years of protection. Anytime
you wanna concieve just remove it.

What about that new coil like thing that I
believe that you insert once a month, I
have heard pluses on it (i forgot yhe name
of it) it is supposed to be low in
hormones.

Sandyallen, I think you are talking about
the nuvaring?
There is no harm in trying depo! I just
hope that you don't have any terrible side
effects. For those who don't get the side
effects, they really like it. But I have
heard of weight gain and extreme mood
swings often.

The coil or iud is inside your uterus, but
nuva ring is only inside of your
vagina...
For women who have multiple pregnancies,
unplanned, sometimes more effective
methods are better

I'm almost 19 and I started getting the
shots in february (i'm about to get my
second one). I like it because its not
something you need to remember often, you
pretty much can't screw it up. But I
have experienced some side effects. I
got my first period after the shot, but
not the second one, and then the past 3
weeks i've been bleeding very lightly
continuously, which is annoying. Also, I
get very tired a lot, but I can already
tell that's been getting better. I
debated whether or not I was going to take
the second one, but i've decided to
continue and let my body adjust.

I actually like the depo shot. Im on my
second round now, but during my first shot
I had really no side effects. I gained a
little weight, but you pretty much do on
all the birth control methods. No period
at all the first month, but than I startd
spotting a little bit during the second
month. It wasnt bad at all but just the
point that I was spotting. Third month no
period at all. No cramps, no mood swings,
only thing I noticed was hot flashes every
so often. Now im in my first month of the
second round and I have no period again.
I personally like it.. No periods are a
plus for me and the weight gain isnt a big
deal. Better to gain like 10 pounds or so
than gaining alot more when u become
pregnant  just my opinion.

Thanks mariana! I guess the nuva ring the
wway you talk ddoes not soundd that great!
Has anyone here tried the nuvaring, is
it safe, I have heard that a lot of
females like it. It would scare me to
bleed a lot or not bleed at all as to me
that would be messing with nature. Their
are soo many decisions out there now
adays, it would be a hard decision, I
think if I were younger and had to worry
about it, I would either go the pill or
the iud as I feel that they have improved
on them since my time but I do realize
what works for one may not work for
others.
Do you still get a lot of cramps while
they are inserting the iud and afterwards?
I know I did but it was not as bad as
haaving my babies pain but that was still
a good pain, believe it or noteven though
my son weighed 10 lbs 2 ozs @ birth but I
did get something while they were
stitching me up.
I am glad I do not have to worry about
that now! I had .C. Cancer and had a
complete hysterectomy so if I get
pregnant, me and my dr will talk!
The best to you all!

Sandyallen,
i am on the nuvaring. My doctor put me on
it because I stopped having periods and a
10-day script of provera failed to bring
them back. After I started nuvaring, they
finally became regulated. It is
easy...You just put it in for 3 weeks and
then take it out for a week. I like it
because I think I would forget to take a
pill. This is my first time being on
hormonal bc ...I've only been on it for a
few months, but the worst thing that I
have noticed is that my moods are out of
whack. It reminds me of how bad it was
going through puberty...Then finally
everything leveled off and I was just
"chilled" for a few years...And then my
body starts messing up and getting on
hormones makes me feel like I did in
puberty. Extremely moody. My mom was so
worried about me she called my doctor but
no decisions have been made yet. I'd
imagine that not every body has had the
same experience I had...I'm hoping I will
either adjust and get myself under
control.

As for the depo shot...I don't really know
anything about it except that I haven't
really heard anything good. My sister
went on it and she bled constantly until
she got off of it for good. It affects
people differently.

Depo Provera Posted: 04-24-06 15:18pm
I had been on the shot for a about 1 1/2
years, and I loved it!! Before my period
was so heavy and unpredictable, then after
about 2 shots my period was gone
completely! I also didn't have any weight
gain. It was so nice to only have to
worry about bc 4 times a year instead of
everyday. The shot was nothing and the
appointment takes about 3 min. The only
thing that I am worried about now is that
my last shot was may last year and I
haven't gotten my period back yet. A
little scary.
