Ear Pin Back (otoplasty) Problems
Posted: 04-15-06 19:33pm

Hi everyone, I had my ears pinned back last december but i'm really unhappy with the results. The surgeon tied the middle part of my ears back but the tips stick out like an elf! I can't even look at anyone straight any more because i'm so embarrassed about how my ears look. I've tried growing my hair long, but the tips just pop through them. Have any of you experienced or know someone who has experienced this problem? I want to meet with a new surgeon asap so this problem can be corrected. I had such high hopes for the surgery and it sucks to be so depressed with the result...I don't even care how it's corrected, for all I care, the surgeon could just cut my tips right off and I bet they would still look better. Basically, the reason i'm posting is to see if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks.

Painful Experience

I'm really sorry for that disappointment honey.. I haven't experienced the same thing but I have been trying to get otoplasty for years, the thing is i'm only 15 years old and haven't had the money... I have extremley unsymetrical protruding ears, so I know what it's like to be desperate to hide them or just pray every night that you can get them just to look natural and somewhat like the "normal" ear.. It consumes much of my own time and even prevents me from doing things I love like dancing and swimming (in public anyway) because i'm so self-conscious of them. Wish you the best!!

My experience with this operation wasunsuccessful too. However, we all must stress that this is usually a successful operation.

My ears had a crease folded in them and that held them back and I was very happy with the result. However, a few weeks after the operation, the ears slowly came forward again and now are virtually in the same position as they used to be. Despite this, I do have a nice crease in my ears which make them look more normal, but i'm still not happy and I am going to get it done again. Also, I am a bit miffed because at the back of my ears there is a scare and it is still prominant.
