Spotting

I started birth control about 1 month and 2 weeks ago. I'm about a week before my period and I have started to spot. At first I thought it was because intercourse was a little dryer than normal last time but i'm unsure and worried. I've never missed a day of my pill even though I haven't always been taking it the exact same time every day. Do you think I should worry about being pregnant? What are some other reasons for spotting other than being pregnant? -kd

The spotting can occur when starting birth control. Because it takes control of your hormones and your period, it can be lighter. Some women have to take birth control so that it can lighten up their period. I was on the patch and when I first got my period, I spotted for about a week before I got my actual period. And it was very light. But it was just the birth control. So you should be fine. If you are still worried take a pregnancy test. Good luck!

Another possible cause is if you're not on a strong enough pill or if the pill doesn't suit you, which is what my daughter discovered after it caused her to spot constantly then she lost massses of weight & we almost lost her.

I am not trying to scare you but people should know that drs do not always tell us (or perhaps they don't even know) of all the possible side effects. Talk to your dr if this keeps up or if you're worried or get any other symptoms.
