How Long Before I Can Start Adding Back Some Foods
Posted: 04-18-06 01:12am

How long do you recommend before I start adding a few of my favourite foods back into my diet. I know your meant to just try a little bit and see how your body reacts.
Ive been on this diet for 4 monthns now, and feel alot better, iv'e only had 1 major crash wich was after a huge night drinking a bottle of vodka.
The other day I drank 1 beer and felt no symptoms at all, and I also ate a tiny bit of chocolate for easter and felt nothing.
My plan is still to pretty much avoid all sugar accept for a few little treats here and there

If you're actually experiencing no symptoms from eating those things now, you may be okay, but this means you can only eat them in moderation. Remember that it can take up to four days for a reaction to occur, or up to a week or so for your body to go back into the mode of secreting too much insulin. Best thing to do is carefully take it. Say, eat a meal, and then have whatever you are thinking of. You should totally be avoiding alcohol and candy, but if you seem to be okay with it, still follow the same rule. This is, only have a small amount. Wait to see what it does. That's all you can do. Don't overdo it, of course.

Out of curiosity, because you seem to have gotten better pretty quickly, what have you been eating? I thought you've only been on the diet for a month or so.

Ive been on the diet since january 2nd so its been quiet a while.
I have been eating the following, breakfast - brown rice puffs 100% organic nothing added, with a sliced pear or peach, and milk.
Snacks iv'e been eating nuts such as almonds and cashews, other snacks have been rice crackers with a tiny bit of peanut butter. Celery carrot and cheese or hommus as well. Another is lite strawberry youghurt wich has a the lowest sugar level I could find out of youghurts.
Lunch I usually have just a salad or sandwich, or sometimes gluten free pasta with some chicken.
Dinner I usally eat heaps of vegetables, beans broccoli, peas, with either pan fried fish or steak. Soemtimes spaghetti bolagnise
late night snack I might eat some more nuts or hommus.
I still sometimes have symptoms like minor shakes and chest palipations, but I havnt had any of the major ones like I used to get all the time such as dizziness, blurred speach, and feeling very faint.
The only time I get some of those old symtpoms back is when I have a long day at work and sometimes miss some snacks and meals, but thats only once a week. When I have my regular snacks and meals I feel pretty good.
I just got back from a 5 day camping trip and to my suprise it went perfect, no symtpoms the whole trip, execpt a headache on the last day.
I find as long as im eating every 2-3hrs im fine, even sometimes if one of those snacks has a bit of sugar in it, like a muesli bar or some fruit. I think my body is finally starting to handle a tiny bit of sugar here and there.

Sounds like it man, awesome. I'm pretty much where you are right now too, I only have minor things here and there, nothing major, and they typically only last a few minutes. The only thing I suggest is try to keep as regular as possible, when you have no symptoms, try to start extending the time between meals.

Here's the last question I have for you. Have you been keeping your carbohydrates within a certain limit every day? Or have you been varying it? Also, do you try to keep the same level with every meal or do you variate throughout the day?

Umm I dont usually count my carb levels, I just try not to eat to many. And I would vary from meal to meal.
Lately ive been so damn hungry, I try to start adding longer gaps between meals, but my body is so used to getting food every 2 hrs or so I ust cant do it. I guess ill just keep with the 2-3hr meal plan like iv'e been doing

Try to wait until symptoms seem pretty much gone before extending time. When you do, do it in moderate amounts. Eat every 2 1/2 hours and then every 3 and so on. Do it week by week. If it takes a month to adjust to an extra half hour, wait, then add more time.
