Could My Son Be Autistic? Posted: 04-19-06 22:28pm
Hi! I am new to this forum. I have
concerns about my son who will be 21
months saturday. His vocabulary
consists of moma or maw ( not used for the
right person), zom mo (some more), keke (
cat or small dog), hi, nene ( for cup and
was also for his bottle) and no ( for yes
and no). The rest of his communication
is as if he is talking a foreign language.
It can not be understood and 98% of the
time, nothing can be deciphered from it.
At 8 months he could say unhuh but after
1-2 months that completly disappeared from
his talking. He also used to be able to
say bye, yight (for light), daddy which
also after a month or so no longer
existed. It is like he never said the
words at all. He seems to be in his own
world sometimes but he does show
affection. And only about 5% of the
time will he point or gesture toward
something he wants. If you let him
outside, he just wonders around
aimlessly. He makes very little eye contact
and the only toys he plays with are his
cars about 20% of the time.He has 2 older
sisters that he so called plays with
sometimes. Other kids, he just looks at
them and goes on about his way. Should
I be concerned?

Yes you should be concerned.....Get him to
a pediatric specialist as soon as
possible. He has many signs of autism and
in this particular condition the earlier
the intervention the better chance for a
full or partial recovery. :)

Thank you for replying back to my post. I
took him to our family doctor this past
week and she wants him to be evaluated at
an excellent hospital here. We are
waiting on the hospital to let us know
when to bring him in. Has been a long 5
days. Hopefully it will be real soon.
Again, thanks. :)

I have 2, one typical and one
autistic........Sometimes it's easier to
raise the autistic darling. If you have
any questions don't hesitate to ask. An
excellent site for beginners of autism is
the autistic society org(put it together).
The moms there are very supportive and
have many suggestions. I'm very into
supporting autism and am in the prelimmary
stages of setting up support for the
"older" forgotten young adults of
autism(mines 14). I want to make sure
they're taken care of once i'm no longer
around.God bless. :)

Wel labout how he ignores other kids he
might just be shy o somthing. Althou this
boy in my class is autistic and he has
problems assosiating with his class mates
so isk thats usually the signs. Autistic
people are usually very smart in sum sort
of ways but they have problems with
interacting with other people and they
have extreme anxiety. They are also very
shy im sure its nothing to be too
concerened about however watch him closely
and go see a doctor abotu it
