I've never had an abnormal pap before, but my doctor's office called today and said that it came back abnormal. The nurse said it could be just the cells changing because i'm pregnant, but that they do a test for hpv - is that a common thing? Could it just be nothing? I've been looking at info on hpv and I definitely don't have any warts of any type anywhere, but I don't know what other symptoms there would be. Anyone dealt with this situation - abnormal pap and so on?

Hi,
i had the same excat thing happen to me after many other false alarms! I had a pap at my 10 week appt. And was called a few days later saying it came nack abnormal!! I freaked!!!! All I could think was that I had cancer or something horrible. My docotr does not even do a second pap. I went right for a colposcopy(?) in which a skilled Dr. In pregnancy takes a sample of the cervical tissue for biopsy. The Dr. Could not even find a sample that showed up as irregular to test! I was elated and then to make things better she offered to listen for he heartbeat and that was the first time I heard it!!
She explained to me that it is not uncommon in pregnancy to get abnormal ressults when all is fine. I am having a follow up pap at 28 weeks!
Relax and good luck!
Hilary 18w today!!
