Question Re: Disida Scan Results
Posted: 04-23-06 19:59pm

I am a young female (we'll say under the age of 21) with upper right quadrant pain, nausea, vomiting, etc. Ultrasound came back unremarkable for gallbladder problems. I had a disida scan done and was just told that my ejection fraction came back as 0%. How common is this? Is there any explanation as to why my gallbladder would totally stop functioning? If I chose to hold off on surgery for a few weeks, would I suffer from any extremely detrimental long-term effects?

Thank you!

Disida Result Question

Causes of a 0% ejection fraction...

1. A sick gallbladder. As long as you're feeling ok, it can wait. But it may need to come out soon.

2. Narcotic pain medicine, especially morphine taken within 8 hours of having the disida scan will likely cause a falsely low ejection fraction.

3. Radionuclide in the bile ducts and bowel near the gallbladder can cause a false reading. This effect can be worsened by patient movement during the scan. Even the most subtle wiggle can throw off the results.
