Two Glands Slightly Bigger Than Golf Balls Under My Chin Posted: 04-24-06 12:24pm
Hi i'm a thirty two year old mixed race
male, and ever since I can remember the
glands under my chin sometimes swell up to
slightly bigger than golf balls.
Sometimes on waking in the morning, and
sometimes late at night. They're slightly
tender to the touch and usualy but not
always coincide with slight soreness of
my neck muscles and accasionaly a slight
headache. The appear very quickly(within
10 mins).
Whatever it is I figure I can live with
it, because it hasen't killed me yet.
But i'm just curious.
Also i'm very slim, and a double chin just
doesn't go with my skinny frame.
So if anybody can tell me what this is or
why I would be very grateful to hear.
Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about two glands right
under your chin (not farther back under
the jaw) you could be dealing with swollen
salivary glands. Sometimes the saliva
becomes too thick to be secreted through
the ducts. The glands are very reactive
to various things that make you salivate
and if the saliva can't flow they'll swell
up. Also, something could be irritating
the actual ducts, causing them to
constrict and impede flow. Could be an
infection. Alleviating this problem could
be as simple as swishing warm water around
in your mouth very hard several times a
day. Best see a doctor just to check. If
the swelling is farther back, under your
jaw, it might be your lymph nodes, which
can swell and unswell from almost
anything.
