Incompetent Cervix...what Exactly Is Bedrest???
Posted: 01-07-04 16:28pm

I was recently diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, and as a result, have lost 2 babies, and 1 miscarriage very early on. I am seeing my doctor on friday for a check up, but am anxious to know now....What exactly does bed rest entail? Surely you can't stay in bed for 9 months!!!??? I want to try to get pregnant again, but am told next time I become pregnant, I will need a stitch at 14 weeks. I have also heard this probably means bed rest. Has anyone had the stitch? What did you have to do? Did it work? Thanks!

I personally didn't have the stitch, but I know someone who did. It was relatively painless. You just wouldn't be advised to go on mall trips and other such adventures.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice farah. I am mainly asking because I want to know if I would still be able to work or clean or things like that. Take care.

Um... Although I am not a medical professional and you should discuss it in more detail with your doctor, I would presume that regular house work would be ok but if you have a job that you'd be standing on your feet a lot, it would not be beneficial for this situation. Like I said, you should ask your doctor a lot more questions... They're definately more informed. I hope that helps.

I went to the doctor today, and while he still recommends waiting a few more months to let my body regain nutrients, he says physically, I seem to be just fine! He also said that a cerclage does not necessarily mean bedrest, just lighter activites. I plan to try again in a month or so (i am anxious)...Wish me luck all!!!!!!!!!!!
