Shouldnt the Doctor Do a Pt????
Posted: 01-07-04 17:27pm

I am around 7 weeks. Ive done 3 hpt and all were possitive. Ive missed periods and have all the symptoms( nausea, breast soreness etc). I know I am pregnant but today I went for my first visit with the doc, she checked my breasts, pushed on the belly, did all the paperwork needed but never did a pregnancy test. Is this normal?????? Confused

I havent heard of this. Most doctors usually do a pt just to confirm that you are preg. Was this your first doctors visit are did they already do a pt ?

Maybe when she touched your belly she knew you were preg but when I first found out I was preg the women did a pap smear examined by breast and she still ordered a preg test. I cant understand why she didnt for you. If it makes you feel really uncomfortable I would go to another doctor.

If you feel uncomfortable with this doctor then you should switch. When you're trusting your doctor with your unborn child, it's extremely important that you feel comfortable with that person. I think it's fine that she didn't test you though. If you took three, i'm sure she assumes you are.

Good luck

When I first went ot the doctor after finding out I was pregnant they did a pt on me because they said that they have to put in the records that a pt was done there to know for sure that I was pregnant. I think you should either get a new doctor.

I called my doctor when I first found out I was pregnant and asked if they would do a blood test just to confirm. They said that is wasn't necassary, because I had 3 pos. Hpt tests, and I was told that they are usually very reliable...Maybe they have already checked for your levels from the blood work. They may not have done one because a positive pregnancy test does not give a positive result because a baby has been detected. It just means that you have elevated levels of hcg hormones in your body. I know that sounds weird, but I do know someone who had positive hcg test, and was not pregnant. She got all the way to 10 weeks thinking she was pregnant, then when they did an ultrasound, there was no baby on the screen. I don't want to worry you, because you seem worried enough, but I just want to educate you on what i've learned. Call the doctor and ask what they've done to determine this pregnancy just so you can rest a bit easier. Good luck & god bless!!!
