I had my first doc appt today and she advised me that I need to take a prenatal vitamin. That I wouldnt need to take a seperate folic acid. Before now, I never was told to take folic acid. Will this effect my baby later??

No, it won't cause birth defects. If you go ahead and start taking it, it will be fine. Don't worry, there are girls who never get any prenatal care and their babies are extremely healthy. It's just something they recommend for growth, etc... You'll be fine if you start taking it now.

I Have a Question
Im not pregnant or anything but how big is the prenatal vitiams? Im the kind of person who are scare of choking myself to death by taking pills. Im alot easier to take 100mg but I dont know about prenatal.

I just want to keep this in my mind til whatever happens. Thanks

Nicole, don't worry about taking it at 7 weeks. That's actually still early. It does help prevent birth defects such as spina bifida, so make sure to take your vitamins everyday. The prenatal viatmin has folic acid, and you don't want to over do anything, but banana's have folic acid too. Think of it this way, most women (unless really tracking it) don't even know they're pregnant until about this time or maybe even a little later. You'll be fine! Goodluck!

Also, to sc17, some prenatal vitamins are big, but depending on which kind you buy and how many vitamins are in each, some aren't as big as others. You could always break the pill in half if you can't take big pills.
