Hypoglycemia And Children Posted: 04-26-06 07:49am
I was wondering if anyone has a child with
hypoglycemia? I have it pretty severely
and so does my 9 yr old son. He can be
very irritable and depressed. I see most
of his behavior issues as symptoms as they
generally clear up after he eats. I have
trouble finding support from relatives.
It's hard to make someone understand what
a serious problem this can be when they
haven't experienced the symptoms of
hypoglycemia.
Has anyone done a low-carb diet with a
child? What were your experiences. He
is terrible when he comes home from school
and I know it's mostly from the
sugar-laden school lunches and lack of
snack. I have trouble finding the time
to make his lunch in the morning and i'm
not sure what would be a good snack that
can be stored in the nurses office that
doesn't require refrigeration.
I want to thank everyone for their
experiences on this forum, especially
stan. You have helped me to make
positive changes toward healing my body.

You need to do whatever you can to keep
his diet regular for a long time. Going
to take at least 6 months to keep him
regular, at most. With summer coming up
you'll have much more time, but do
whatever you can to keep him regular now.
Have you explained to him as much as
possible what he needs to do and why? If
your relatives have trouble understanding,
tell them to screw off, explain that what
happens to your child and yourself is
exactly what happens to a diabetic when
they inject too much insulin. If they've
ever seen anyone like this, they'll have
more sympathy, trust me.
