How Other People View Hypoglycemia Posted: 05-02-06 10:10am
Hey guess what everyone? Did u know that
actually I don't have hypoglycemia? Thats
right. Its actually in my head. Im
making it all up. I just need to pull
myself together and get on with it.
So ok, I will try my best to ignore the
severe exhaustion, the fact that my arms
and legs dont seem to work properly, the
fact that I am tired and nauseous and i'll
just go back to work tomorrow and
everythign will be fine. Here are some
classic quotes I have heard recently:
doctor 1: hypoglycemia only occurs in
diabetics. (hahahaha! Hilarious).
Doctor 2: stress has made u very ill
indeed.
Dad: you'll be alright, just start eating
properly, u need more sugar, thats why
your so weak.
Mother: there's nothing wrong with you,
its all in your head. (my own mother).
Friend 1: u just need to start going out
again and do exercise.
Friend 2: the doctor has said theres
nothing wrong with u, so u have to believe
it. If u believe u r ill, u will b ill.
So im pretty much in this on my own.
Screw them all. I'm frustrated beyond
belief.

I've heard a lot of this too. One of my
close family members at one point was
starting to think it was all in my head,
but that was before I found out what it
was for certain. So terrible. You
still have us! Best thing to do is stick
with your diet and when they see you get
better shove it in their face. It's
unfortunate, but during such times we
start to learn who really cares about us.
This again is the problem with western
medicine, it refuses most of the time to
see the connection between mind and body,
which couldn't be more obvious. Then you
have people that don't think an illness
can affect the mind, but yet they state
things like "if you think you're ill
you'll be ill." so how's that? I can
think i'm ill and be ill but I can't
really be ill and get all these mental
symptoms? Give me a break. It's
simple. Glucose is the main source of
energy in the body. When it's low, it's
like a car running without gasoline or
oil. Everything shuts down. How much
simpler can it get and why don't people
understand this disease? It's so stupid.
You need to first find a doctor who is
familiar with hypoglycemia and go from
there. Screw the rest. Don't even
mention it to them or only do when they
ask. If they're not going to support you
in what is going on they don't deserve you
in the first place. When people truly
care about you they support you in these
things, even if it may seem doubtful to
them that anything is wrong. The
important thing is to always trust, not
shove it aside.

Before I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia,
I went to many doctors. Some knew my
family history of diabetes and while they
kept testing me for diabetes no one
thought to check for hypoglycemia until I
found my current doctor.
I went from specialist to specialist - all
scratching their heads. The last straw
when one specialist suggested I make an
appointment with a psychiatrist.
