Maybe indiana is just wierd, but when my sister had my nephew there were 6 people in the room. My mom, my aunt, my grandma, my mom's best friend, her boyfriend, and his mom were all in the room. It could just depend on the doctor also.

It depends on your hospitals rules and regualtions. I am only supposed to have my boyfriend there, but if I get permission from the doctors I can have my mom there too.

While I was in labor I was able to have my mother and my husband there, but once they decided I needed a c-section, only my husband could come with me. Like sandra said...And I was awake for my c-section.

My sister delivered at the same hospital that i'm going to, and the regulations say that there are only 2 people allowed in the room, but she had 6. They told her that it didn't matter as long as they weren't in the way and they didn't touch crap. Hopefully it will be the same when I deliver.

Actually in the delivery room where I was, it was my fiance, my mom, and his mom. They were all needed as well lol

Most hospitals say no more then two, but, really, you'll find most hospitals pretty relaxed about that.
I don't know about c-section though, then again, I don't know how attractive that is in terms of spectators anyway.

With my first, I was just going to have my husbandpresent at the actiual delivery, but have my mum in the vicinity-y'know, during the labour, and as soon as the baby was born. But in the end, I had both of the there the whole time (holding a leg each)
after my baby was born, my mum went out to give us a little time.
Not long afterwards, they let her, my dad, my sisters, my sisters's friend (who gave her a lift to the hospital!) in to visit for a while.

My husband's mother (wio is a nut) wanted to be at the birth- wanted to rub my back for me or some caca (shudder) I can just imagine what a pain in the arse she would've been. Nice woman an' all, but seriousy-small doses !!

I quoted the "two only" rule, so it was easy to fob her off gently- I think that is the main purpose of that rule to be honest.

My hospital had a 2 person rule. And they were very strict about it because I was hoping I could have 3 and they said no way. It was kind of lame. But I had a bit of complication later on while I was pushing (her heartrate started dropping dangerously low she also pooped inside me, as she was 5 days overdue) and so they brought in a team of specialists just incase something was wrong (thank goodness nothing was) and the room filled up very fast. I think that rule is there just incase they need room for doctors. You never know what will happen in labour, and it's always good to be prepared.

I had three, lol. My mum and my two best mates... I didn't ask for them to be there but I had a really short labour and they kind of got caught up in the rush!

They turned up with flowers just before I went into the l&d room and had to come with me. Poor boys, one of them's only 15. I think the doctors are ok as long as you are and it's not an excessive amount of people who are in the way.

Yeah alot of hospitals here specify two only because of what happened with sars so they limited the visitors between certain hours and sometimes if the baby is in the nursery you have to wear a gown (yellow nurse gown) so you dont bring anything in to the other kids.

Just check with hospital policy!!

I have decided I only want my husband in the room. Of course now that I am having another c-section I only get to have one person in the delivery room anyway.

Gen with my first I had my mom and husband it was awesome with cam I just had my husband because my mother was watching elisa moms are usually awesome they know what your going through and dont put you under stress sometimes hubbys can do more damage than good(they freak out when giving birth.) now hubby was great but when ur in pain and hes trying to talk to you it got on my nerves lol!!!

I'm not even in labor yet and I get annoyed when hubby starts talking to me when i'm having a contraction or that crampy feeling. I want to bash him.

For the original poster i'm pretty sure that it depends on your hospital. I don't know how many are allowed but I know I don't want my mum with me. We're very close but not really cool about physical things. I'd be really embarrassed to have my mum see me like that and she's not good with body fluids. She'd pass out. So only hubby for me.
