Tyc, that's good to hear. I am doing really well and looking forward to the holidays rather than dreading them for a change and this feels so much better Smile

The best time for me is when I can get completely relaxed and actually have a good conversation with someone without worrying about my breathing or my stressful life. When I can kick back and feel good. It seems once I feel good I fear the anxiety of coming back...And of course it eventually does...But thats when I feel the best.

I live with fear of anxiety returning. That's an anxiety itself and it's terrible. You'll be going along all happy and the thought occurs to you. Oh gosh, how long till I have that next nervous attack. The breathing thing is what really gets me sometimes.

I sometimes go to a quiet place and just try to clear my mind.

Success Story
Posted: 03-06-07 07:53am

I guess my story is fairly successful. I started having anxiety symptoms as a child probably around the 2nd grade. I managed to get over it by 4th grade and completely forgot about it until I was in my ealry 20's and then it all came crashing down. I tried every drug in the book and all of them seemed to make my symptoms worse, so I quit all drugs started eating a healthy breakfast and meditating. I also drank Kava tea to relax. All of this helped. I also took up a nasty habit of drinking and smoking and lasted 2 years with very little problems. Never in my dreams did I realize it was my lack of responsibility and the amount of alcohol I was drinking that was protecting me from the anxiety. Anyway, I met this woman and we began dating and I knew that I would marry her. As we got more serious my anxiety level got higher becuase of the increased level of commitment. We got married a couple years ago and now have a daughter and another due any moment. After my first daughter was born the stress was so high that I was having major anxiety attacks again so I finally sought a specialist in anxiety dissordes specifically and he prescribed me Xanax. I have been on that fro almost 8 months now and it has helped a lot. I still have rough days, but my anxiety level has decreased and I am able to get up in the morning and go to work and I am working on my masters degree etc. I would say I am 90% OK with some lingering bad days, but nothing like before, so it is possible to live with anxiety dissorder. Meditation is still a daily part of my life as well and the booze and cigs had to go. I also never touch caffeine and eat better.

Later,
OE

I`ve had constent anxiety and depression for 20+ years, since the age of about 13-14,now i`m 37,my life has been a total mess,i`ve never had a holiday, never passed my driving test, never had any desire to do anything,i was having panic attacks every day, heart racing, agrophobia, dep depression, negative thoughts ect..
I`ve always said to myself that i would never take antidepressents, but it was getting that bad, something had to be done..
My doctor has recently prescribed me citalopram (seritonin reuptake) i also see a mental health officer every 2 weeks..Since taking 1 citalopram a day for the past month my heart does`nt race as much,i still have agrophobia, and my depression is still strong, but just the relief of a normal heart beat has improved my mood enormously,my anxiety has calmed down, not greatly, but i do feel better..

SFS, it is those thoughts that you need to counter and eliminate to truly find relief. Try and learn how to counter that thought and all the others you have in the tea form exercise and I think you will find more lasting relief like me Very

I was on a rollercoaster for 5 years. I was on effexor, depakote, lithium, thorazine, risperdal, paxil, prozac, etc. I even had 2 months of ECT treatments. In 2004 I was able to go off the meds, and was med free for three years. I have been working now for 2 years and everything was great. Recently the anxiety came back, but I did not see see it for what it was. The point is, these illnesses can go and come back. The positive is that they are treatable. With the right doctor, medication and therapy you can get well. Dont expect miracles, expect to take baby steps. I love life, I have a wonderful wife and three wonderful children, and everything to live for. We all have something to live for. Just take life day by day, and anything is possible.

I just had a mini crisis last week and started to freak out when my insurance denied my claim. I eventually sat down did some deep breathing and then countered my thoughts in my tea form and almost imediately calmed myself down. Best of all I called my insurance company and it turns out my doctor billed it wrong and it will be covered. Hooray!

I finally found a med I can take with minimal side effects, I feel a lot better. I was really struggling with my anxiety, from the minute I woke up every morning. Its so much better now. If you can make it without meds thats great, however I can't!

Cece glad to hear the tea forms calmed you down and even happier your claim got paid Laughing Funny how we tend to jump to conclusions and upset ourselves when in the end things turn out fine Wink

Metal, I'm glad you found a med that is working for you Very
Happy You may want to learn cbt while you are on it because i didn't think I could get off my meds but after learning cbt I was able to gradually do it and feel great now. Take care Smile

I had about a year of CBT. It was great and useful but sometimes I couldn't even calm down enough to think straight! I honestly don't mind being on meds. Side effects are very minimal on the one I take. It's totally worth it to lose about 90% of my anxiety.

No question that you have to calm your mind down sometimes to be able to concentrate on cbt! I'm glad your meds are working for you Very

Things are going well with me. How are you John? I just sent you a note telling you how I used your advise about using the tea forms to get out of my head and back to sleep last night so thanks for that advise also.

Nice to hear from you cece and that's great that you are doing well. I'm glad you are still finding new uses for the tea forms and find them as useful as I have. I'm doing great but wish summer would have hung around a little longer, but I like Fall too so things are good. It's always good to hear from you so please keep in touch Very
